Prince and the Revolution with Dez or Wendy? Prince and the Revolution sounded better with Dez or Wendy? The reason i ask is because Lisa said that Wendy is better funk guitar player than Dez,but Dez is better rock guitarist.n my opinion besides being a good rock guitarist Dez is a much funkier guitar player than Wendy and guitar sound was much sloppier since Wendy takin in.I think that Dez is the only guitar player who can sound almost indentical to Prince when playing rhythm guitar.

I like em both, and I know people love to hate on Wendy, but i'm gonna go with her regardless.

Dez was into hard rock, Wendy & Lisa were into more sophisticated pop. IDK how different PR, ATWIAD, Parade and the shows from that era would have been with Dez. Wendy would certainly have been around anyway and would probably have become to Dez what Miko became to her on stage. On the other hand W&L played a great role in the image of the band at the time, the Revolution may have been less intriguing with Dez instead of Wendy in PR. What I don't understand is why Dez couldn't get a record deal, I mean virtually everyone who'd been in P's camp at some point or another got a record deal in the 80's, pretty much regardless of the music they were doing: André, Wendy & Lisa, Mark, Bobby, Morris, Jesse, Vanity, Apollonia, Paul, even Alexander O'Neal and Sue-Ann! And of course Jimmy and Terry got a lot of work as producers... I can't understand what went wrong with Dez. Listening to his Retrospective compilation I think maybe labels felt he sounded too white for a black artist, but if not that I don't have a clue! He has said that record labels offered him deals, but they wanted him to sound like Prince (the Minneaolis sound) and he refused to go that route.

there is something very special listening to p sing with wendy lisa or even susannah or shiela .. an it factor not seen again in his career .. a uniqueness of the combination of voices that for me anyway, is right up there with prince own singular voice in presence .. that said .. i love dez .. i enjoy his guitar work .. wendy is fine on guitar .. i don't really have a preference in terms of guitar .. dez is more agressive and in the fore in his playing .. wendy is more subtle but has really interesting stuff going on .. but the singing tilts the scales for me as there has never been a combination of singers in a prince band that even came close to the wendy lisa prince lineup [Edited 12/28/15 15:23pm]

But 1999 never sounded as good without Dez. I bought his Retrospective set (still never got the booklet!) and his Oneman album and he has his own style. TOPIC- Both!
