I think $400,000,000 is actually the number, he felt would be unfair just for streaming rights to his existing catalog ('I've got more albums than the Beatles'). By the time you factor in outtakes and mechanical rights to the existing catalog, my wild uninformed guess is he's dreaming of 1.5 billion or so, upfront more than likely. George Lucas got 2 billion for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Lucasfilm.

I imagine his WB deal requires him to take all the financial risks (fairly so since he is the owner of his masters afterall) and I can't imagine a scenario where he either doesn't end up in bankruptcy, or losing control of the entire catalog to a third party, should he risk financing remasters and outtakes, and then go FULLPRINCE when shit doesn't work out immediately as he intended.

I imagine we're fucked basicly.

Lets face it in 5 more years 10 more years with the terrible visibility he has now a days to the NEW GENERATION... No one cares. Just a legacy act, legend without a doubt, but he killed all the chances for anymore commercial success.

I believe he will never sell as much as AOA (EST 200,000 worldwide) did for the rest of his career, that was the last commercial chance he had... Not trying to be negative, but it's just the truth. His games with his youtube, streaming, ownership just killed his visibility... That new ebony interview really really proved how out of touch Prince has become, I really hate to say it...

Well, without knowing the actuals of his agreement with WB, these things could happen if he were to sued by WB for not fulfilling the terms of his agreement.

I hate to say this, but the record companies do make much more from the artist. But, so do basketball and football owners. You think Tom Brady makes bank? Robert Craft is a billionaire. What should happen is they should all make less money.

I would pay $100 for a remastered Prince box set of For You through Lovesexy. Even if it didn't contain outtakes it would be nice if each contained B-sides and Maxi Single mixes. Maybe one day.

I guess we were lucky in the UK, Sign O' The Times was given away as a free DVd with a national newspaper

Unless he is 150% committed to a fairly long-term programme of untampered remasters of at least his six classic 80s albums -

AND he has finalised a deal with Warners

AND he sticks to any deal made to the bitter end ...

IMO he should say nothing publicly. Otherwise, it just comes across as bitching against Warners (again) and manipulating/ baiting fans who are interested in getting remasters, as happened last year when remasters were first 'announced' by P/ Warners.

I do have to say, what with the improved sound quality of archive studio and live bootlegs these days (talking in general, not just Prince), unless he includes some truly 'new' vault material/ bonus tracks, there would be little incentive in getting remasters at this stage.

He really should have done the whole 'classic album remasters+ bonus disks' thing back in 2004/5, during the Musicology era, as he was back in the commercial game again and didn't release anything much from late 04 through 05 until 3121 in 06. It would have generated much more excitement both in the Prince community and in the wider pop world.
