She was his girlfriend at the time, so it's not such a strange thought. And both stories could be true: he could have been thinking about his real life relationship and the fictional one at the same time when writing. That's what writers do: they take what they experience and turn it into fiction. |

Then who? The Klingons?
And as for Fink: it's not about, is it true or not (I'm sure you are right) but about the phrasing in the interview.
Lol the Kligons would have as well but no not talking about them either...sure phrasing and all but I still don't get see it as being condescending or demeaning.
But aside from the Klingons please tell me who did?

The Melvoins have a bigger ego than Prince. And that's really something To my knowledge, Susannah never said that it was about her. It was either Susan Rogers or Leeds That all started in a RS article on a best of lp article and they were interviewing folks. Anyone remember that RS piece in the 90's? minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam |

Yes.
And again, isn't this all about how he deals with in the interview, slagging other people off etc.? If someone is really proud/happy that he did a song about her, and he knows she's mistaken, I would let her believe the 'lie'. Or maybe tell her in private. This is all personal, it seems.
To me it doesn't matter who the song is about. After all we fans react to the emotional & musical content, and maybe to our own lives. But just don't tell me you wrote the song about some spiritual being or something.

So let me get this straight. Prince gives the most eye opening, come-on-in, straight no chaser interview of his fucking career. And all the usual suspects and trolls in this thread can do is point to his comments about religion????
LOL....Man...Not to be crass...But fuck some of y'all know-it-all assholes....lol

It was listed as a song inspired by her in an interview she gave about her time with Prince. She didn't contradict it. In the same interview she claims Strange Relationship was about her too. Even though it's common knowledge that song was written in 1982 before he even met her. The wooh is on the one! |

A spiritual being isn't quite the same as a character in movie. It's not uncommon to write music for characters. Heard about opera? The wooh is on the one! |

From Billboard (Excerpt):
Where Did Ebony's Wide-Ranging Interview With Prince Go?
Miles Lewis tells Billboard that Prince's team got in touch with Ebony yesterday, asking for the interview to be taken down, saying that Prince believed the conversation to be off the record.
Lewis denies that assertion, mentioning that during at least one part of the conversation Prince did ask for a section to be kept off the record, and that that section was not published.
Multiple attempts to contact Prince's team were not returned as of press time.

Oh please, go look up the facts: WBR wanted to do a greatest hits for years and Prince had been getting in the way over and over again. They finally paid him several millions to get the fuck out of the way so they could get it done.
.
Of course, the set sold disappointingly because Prince did no serious promo. It's baffling how such a fantastic set -- three CDs for the price of two and one of those CDs being a collection of B-Sides most of which were vinyl only, fantastic liner notes, at least one stunning previously unreleased track -- sold so little, whereas other artists have collections that are million sellers.
Perhaps he's not willing or able yet to deal with all his wrongdoings. Surely you can relate.

I think part of the problem with susannah is that so many people were probably in her ear. Telling her oh yeah your this and your that you know that song is about you!! And the poor girl believed it. |

Renato is the worst musician prince has ever played with .. His butchering of p classics was tragic ... No keyboard player since fink has laid down anything memorable in contrast to finks outstanding contributions to not only composing but catchy stabs and very memorable solos .. Furthermore much of prince music grooves came from jams/improvising with various rev members and they were all far better at improvising than his post rev bands p discarded them for ... Where do you think 20 minute versions of mountains America purple rain and baby ima star come from? Renato improvising is sleep inducingly boring and unmemorable
That's simply not true. The Rev's impro is simply them playing the same thing for 20 minutes while Prince improvises on top.
America gets stale after 15 minutes. Purple rain was never really extended minues P playing a solo in the begining and Baby I'm a Star got repetitive after the 5th "on the one" "gimme 25!" phrase. the lovesexy band and the original NPG were miles ahead of the revolution |

I think that is probably the best interview he's ever given.
There certainly was some personal stuff in there, but he didn't name everyone. In perspective: these people have been talking about Prince to anyone who'll listen for years.
He sounds more confident. I liked it. |
