We've discussed this track to death on two occasions already - the original Reloaded version with Andy's rap and then the subsequent release that removed it.

I love every version, but I think THIS one is the best. Just pounds and thumps and slams. Love love love.

I am inclined to agree with you. It is like a toothless shark who once had a fantastic bite. Double row of teeth no less. Now not so much. Still, you can sort of hear the real song deep in there so I have not taken it off the playlist just yet, but it is living precariously...

the 80's version is way better. Prince recorded it again and the magic is gone. would have been a hit back then

However my fave was the 2011 cut and its extended instrumental "remix", I think it's sexier with only synths and the horns, while gorgeous, kill a bit of the sexiness of it. Electrofunk is always the sexier than classic funk

I disagree. The original is awesome. I don't know if I have listened to the 2011 cut. I'll have to check that out.

I prefer the 2011 cut, but this one isn't bad. The original bootleg was a favorite of mine (other than that cringe-worthy rape line), but I actually thought the 2011 cut was better. The reloaded and album mix (which are near-identical) are just a bit too overproduced for my taste, but still...not bad.

yes me too, the 2011 cut was really good imo He should have put that one on this album instead

The album version is my favorite of the updated sound and I never liked the 2011 version because of the female rap.

I edit the original boot to 5:41 and have it fade out when he starts calling Brown Mark.

That version has an energy that's mpossible for Prince to replicate all these years later.

Where did this come out, I don't think I've ever heard it, was it the "B-side" of the vocal version?

Anyway as far as the song goes I really like this version, the horn breakdown in the middle is great and I just think it's one of his best songs for a long time. The original is great as well (apart from the gross rape lyric needless to say) and if we had it in perfect quality I would probably prefer it to this newer one, but I'm content to enjoy both, same thing with the two versions of We Can Funk
