the falsetto of The breakdown is thin and full of effects to sound fuller (...even the part where he sings in his normal voice is doubled or how ever its called....)
Compare it to the one of The most beautiful girl....This one is so much stronger....
But i like that song anyway, one of the better ones from AOA.

Most Beautiful Girl had really good producers and enginers on it. Saw him live this year, and really, his vocals were fine. I won't say he has the SAME range he did 30 years ago but I found nothing weak abbout it live.
A good example of his falsetto sounding great in studio was a song on Janellle Monae's album "The Electric Lady".
Given Em What They Love -felt like she may have produced it - and definitely had a good engineer.(s)
His falsetto on "give em what they love" is doubled. Thats why it sounds fuller.... |

Yes. And then starts a whole new discussion about mastering, sound effects and production in general...

he's almost 60.... of course he sounds different than he used to...no crime in that... its not even realistic to expect him to sound like he did on "Something In The Water" or "TMBGITW" or "Love 2 The 9's"... he's closer to 90, than Dirty Mind... |

When I first starting listening to prince, my first impression was he was a decent singer, but not a fantastic one. This was a mistake on my part because I didn't realize that he was fantastic and having the right vocal style for the given song, and that when outstanding vocals fit the song, he could deliver as well as anyone. The Most Beautiful Girl being discussed here being a prime example.
I don't hear anything on the new albums that strikes me as anyting other than his still doing that, fitting is vocals to the song. If Prince had any doubt about his singing ability, he wouldn't have planned to go on tour with only a piano. |

If you can't see that The Breakdown is a masterful vocal performance, then you are either trolling or you don't know what you're talking about. |

HIs vocals are maybe a bit thinner now, but he is can do smoother stuff now. He kinda seems a bit more sophisticated in a way. Without a doubt a bit more produced though. Still love it. And on his last album, we wasn't doing too much weird and annoying with his voice. It has just enough edge to be interresting, and not too weird. Most of it iss even possble to listen to for non fans. |
