So finally, is C-Note officially a NPG album?

If you look at the official artwork that was revealed for the first time ever on Tidal in September, the album's cover shows only "The New Power Generation" as the artist. http://princevault.com/im..._album.png

.

According to Pvault the original random downloads from 2003 were credited to "Prince And The New Power Generation" but then again originally the tracks from TS and TCI were randomly credited to either "Prince" or "The NPG", and certain songs on Come had originally been attributed to "prince" on the Beautiful Experience video, so I'd take only the final album's credit into account.

.

I don't remember if the album was officially credited to "Prince" in the NPGMC download store in 2004, but since everything there was Prince I'd assume maybe there was no artist credit. Anyone remembers?

.

Now on Tidal it's sold as a "Prince" album but so is "The War" (definitely credited to "The NPG" before that point) so I think it's simply for marketing simplicity.

.

One could argue that there is no credit at all on the also newly revealed album covers of TS and TCI, but then it's logical to attricute them to "Prince" by default.

.

On the other hand I'd be inclined to consider the album cover's credit for C-Note as the definitive credit, therefore making it the fourth "NPG" album (fifth if u count The War as an album).

.

What do u say?

No of course but still technically it's somewhat important to know what the official credit is.

Princevault and other reference sites, from mine to Wikipedia to everything else.

I see where Askani is coming from, and I'm the first to say everything Prince did, from The Time to Back In Time, should be included in his albums discography, but in the end albums receive different official credits (Prince, Prince And The Revolution, Prince And The New Power Generation, prince, Prince & 3rdEyeGirl, The New Power Generation, Madhouse, The NPG Orchestra, etc.) and I think if matters to know how the artist has decided to categorize such or such release.

But you've answered your own question. It's both. Because they've been released as both. The NPGMC era stuff got put out under both names at different times.

So in the end, at least as far as "Prince" and "NPG" are concerned, they are one and the same. Depending on the project.

OK but I still think we need to agree on a definitive, final "official" credit.
