Revisiting the unreleased "Welcome 2 America" album

With the new album giving us even more of P's tracks slated from his unreleased W2A album, I thought it would be interesting to revisit this era. Remember this is just after scrapping 20TEN Deluxe and taking three years of releaseing two albums in one hit. Also worth mentioning the amount of tour he did in this time period.

1000 Light-years Away (The last 3:05 minutes of Black Muse)

Born 2 Die

Check The Record (Played live 18 Jan, Dakota Shows)

Hot Summer (Played on radio website - The Current 83.9)

Running Game

Same Page Different Book (Streamed on 3rd Eye Girl YouTube)

Stand Up And B Strong

Welcome 2 America (Played as the latter part of Dreamer, in most live shows)

When She Comes (Released on PHASE 2, without accordion track)

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Never heard of Running Game or Stand Up & Be Strong.

On a related note he once alluded to a 20 min. opus called The Dawn that "the world wasn't ready to hear" . I wonder if this will ever see the light of day?

I've seen some orgers talk about having somehow 'heard' the album - but not able to say how / where. I think the best of people as can't see what mileage they'd get from making such a claim. Also, did the Peach and Black boys get offered the chance to listen to the W2A album that Prince had in the car but turned him down?

.

Was Live To Get Funky also a track supposed to be on this album? Forgot about 20Ten Deluxe... maybe someday! Is 20Ten even on Tidal yet?

They should be so lucky.

Me, three. nod I love the brooding funk version he played on Dec. 18, 2010 in NYC.

I'd also like to hear the studio verson of "Check The Record". Loved the live version.

I think many of these tracks were originally slated for 20Ten Deluxe, then he decided to shape them into a full album (possibly titled "Welcome 2 America"). Of course, he eventually abandoned that idea as well

Is that really a song? It's just some spoken lyrics over the music of Thank You Fallettinme Be Mice Elf Again.

I clearly recall reports from around that time stating that "Welcome 2 America" was on a planned album but that the album wasn't called "Welcome 2 America".

Unfortunately, I can't now recall where I read that.

What about "U Will B with Me" - does anyone think that was slated for the same album, or just something he came up with on the tour?

Not sure if that's really a song either. He performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2011 over the music of The Question of U/The One. In other words, three songs into one. And with Welcome 2 America being played as part of Dreamer, I wonder if any of these titles are really songs that can stand on their own.

Welcome 2 America (the song) was played (not as part of Dreamer) on 18 December 2010 in New York.

I'm not sure it was played live, or if it was the studio version played over PA. Prince shouts "New York" at some point, which might make you think it's live, bt then he could have shouted that during the track being played.

Also, it was in the dark, so no idea if people could see it being played live.

I wondered about that sequence on Black Muse and some of those songs do have that 2011/12 feel just before the afro and 3EG.

.

They would serve as a good bridge between 20Ten and Art Official Age. I would also lump Xtralovable on that list and possibly the songs, Chapter and Verse and even Da Bourgeoisie and Keep ur girlfriend away from me.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I was there were that. It sounded really hype. I was kinda gave me the hope there's be something else new in the show.

I think that "Turn Me Loose" and "F.U.N.K." would fit on that W2A album as well, since they didn't appear on Lotusflow3r or 20Ten. But, I think that there would be no harm in releasing 20Ten Deluxe as a double album, six years late is fine with me. LOL.
