HitnRun Phase 1 vs. HitnRun Phase 2

Ok so I have to do this, do you prefer HitnRun Phase 1 or HitnRun Phase 2?

Believe it or not... I prefer HitnRun Phase 1... I know, I know... Here's why.

I feel overall as an album, Phase 2 is the more popular vote, it's more of an organic sound, and musically it is better... HOWEVER... It get's a little boring and I feel the whole mood of the album is just for a middle aged audience, which is why I see so many great reviews for it because I feel it is amongst people in that "age bracket"

Phase 1 where I really skip the whole first 3 tracks, and don't feel Fallinluv2nite, This Could B Us remix are mainly skippers... I do feel the overall better tracks are on Phase 1, Hardrocklover, 1000 X's & O's and June imo are all the stronger tracks, with the exception of REVELATION.

HitnRun Phase 2 just starts to lack energy, I love Revelation, Look At Me, Look at U, but the rest is just gets a little boring. It reminds me a tad bit of the overall energy of Planet Earth. It's not a bland album but it starts to drag out in my opinion. HitnRun Phase 2 is not bad at all, I just don't think it's great.

This is just silly. Phase 2 by a country mile.

Overall, yea, I think it's the "better" album... I just prefer HitnRun Phase 1, it holds more energy imo...

Plust 1000 X's & O's alone makes everything on Phase 2 with the exception of REVELATION sound tame. lol

1000 X's and O's doesn't do it for me, as it's not nearly as cute as the original. Even if it was a knockout for me it couldn't save the album.

Phase 2 is far better than Phase 1. Phase 1 is more Josh than Prince with his bad production tricks and beats. Phase 2 is classic Prince smile

Still think the three strongest tracks are Hardrocklover, 1000 X's & O's and June.

I'm not a fan of Hardrocklover but I enjoy the other two, especially 1000 X's and O's. That's the best song on Phase 1 imo

Phase Two has made me warm up to the whole project and increased my appreciation of Phase One. I definitely prefer 2, but I agree that 1 has some song tracks. I enjoy starting with X's Face and listening straight through the the rest of 1 and then right into 2 and listen to that all the way through.

Phase One = 5/10 (a few weeks ago it was a 3/10)

Phase Two = 8.5/10 (time will tell if it's 8 or 9)

Organic and jazzy beats the pants off wooshes and trying too hard.

Favorite tracks:
1. Revelation
2. 1000 X's & O's
3. When She Comes
4. Look at me, Look at u
5. Black Muse
6. June
7. X's Face

Tracks 1-3 on Phase One are so bad the album can possibly be more than a 6/10. Used to hate Like A Mack, too, but now it is kind of fun.

They are both good but in my opinion it's Phase 2. For me it contains better songs. Everything seems more fleshed out, and the songs just seem to flow. I realize there's nothing new on Phase 2, but that doesn't mean it's a weak album. Prince just seems to be in the zone on Phase 2.

I enjoy Phase 1, but I just can't behind a 57 year old dude singing "like a mack". When I listen to Phase 1 I have to ignore the lyrics somewhat to enjoy it. Plus the whole album is just to undustrial for me at times. Prince is a brilliant musician and this album contains very little of him. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the album... I just prefer Phase 2 biggrin

I know this isn't an exact science here but I believe those that prefer the Prince sound on the 80s/90s are going to prefer Phase 2 but those that became fans later should like Phase 1 (that crazy The Dance will be the exception razz)

Phase Two is in a universe far far away from Phase One — and, thankfully, far out of the reach of Josh's grubby hands.

Phase one sounds like Prince dropped into some young guy's recording session and made it better by adding some stuff. Phase two sounds exactly like a 50-something Prince should sound like. Mature, sophisticated and musically interesting if you listen closely.

My kids (11 & 9) loved phase one, but latched onto Purple Rain and can't stop playing that album to the point where I can hardly stand it, which should tell us all something about these current releases.

I agree those 3 are great, but the rest is mainly poor.

.

As for Phase 2, I think it has quite a few really strong tracks (Revelation, Look At Me, Black Muse, Groovy Potential, When She Comes) and the rest is decent. The only one I skip is Baltimore.

.

So it's easily Phase 2 for me.
