The return of the New Power Generation... ... a real Prince band on Phase 2. Renews my faith in Prince recording rela music and not Joshified EDM crap. And lets hope he really had nothing to do with this one... Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

It's a collection of songs from the last 5-6 years, not a new and recently recorded album.

Right - NPG and Josh have existed in the last 5-6 years. We all got Screwdriver, Baltimore, Rock n Roll Love Affair, Stare, and Xtralovable months/years ago so everyone knows it is not all new. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

I am referring to the current release of music; not when it was made. No one cares when it was made when it is the latest release or "new" to the general public. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

Prince is a genius with electronic music. Josh isn't. Period. This whole acoutsic/band sound 'real music by real musicians' is pure conservative BS, just like people saying jazz and/or classical is the only "real" music and everything else is shit. Lots of full bands will sound flat by comparison to great electronic or EDM composers, the medium isn't the point, the artist is. I didnt call all EDM crap - just what Josh does. Thats a smart and well-informed perspective of music. Calling real instrumentation from actual musicians BS just isnt. [Edited 12/18/15 18:04pm] Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

I was never worried. Just as I wasn't concerned that NEWS meant the end of vocal albums. Phase one was just the latest in a long line of diverse sounding and unique concept albums and like it or not that adds richness to the man's repertoire. He was always going to go back to form and I'm glad he's done it so soon to calm those who feared otherwise. With 4 diverse albums in 15 months. There's something for everybody I'm sure and for a 57 year old 80s icon, that's true genius. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

the new band (including Kirk J and that Neon guy) will hopefuly produce the next musical sound from Prince. From those soundbites we got on social media I hope it's something experimental fusion sounding.

My bad, I'd understood u were condemning EDM as a whole. Josh isn't indeed very skilled at it in the end, only a moderately gifted technician with little originality or creativity in him. He may evolve and do better, he's still young, but he isn't exactly a remarkable talent right now. Just for the record, I don't call "real instrumentation by real musicians" BS, I claim that people who are geniuses with drum machines, samplers, music softwares and synthesizers as just as much real musicians as any guitar or trumpet player. Therefore I say that making a hierarchy of musical technbiques, instruments or genres is by definition an absurdity, and I think Prince is talking sheer nonsense when he says this because following his own logic, conservative jazzman Winton Marsalis for example would probably say everything Prince has ever released is turd because it lacks the technicality of classic jazz or classical, and I assume Prince would disagree. Yea, I started wondering because Phase 2 really sonds more of a jazz vibe with lots of horns utilized on the album and it reminded me of the NPGQ album were were "promised"...

The most noticeable thing for me since 2011 is the return of the Hornheads. No desrespect for the 2002-2004 horn section nor the new NPG Horns (it certainly was great to have Candy on Xpectation or Mace soloing on stage) but I feel only Eric Leeds and Michael B. Nelson's horns really merge with P's music with a perfect balance, creating a very particular sound texture in both cases. It's a bit like Clare and Prince: there's a sort of magic that emerges from the convergence of 2 trademark sounds and the Hornheads just do that for me! I'd say there is a very delicate, sophisticated aspect in P's music that always made me like it, and Eric and the Hornheads have it too, while other horn sections sound more generic and less subtle IMHO.
