Anyone had/have the original Double Live 2 cassettes release of Syracuse?

Hi smile

I just wanted to know about the editing of the original 2 cassettes home video release of the show, i.e. between cassettes: did it, like, end abruptly at the end of cassette one and start abruptily at the beginning of cassette 2 or were an intro and end credits inserted at the beginning and end of both parts as was done with the original release of Lovesexy Live 1 & 2?

Thx all timers for sharing the info smile

I only had the single tape of syracuse - and god i loved that so much. Was awesome. And just loved the cover.

The Dortmund lovesexy shows were split between two tapes - these i think faded out on tape 1 and back in on tape 2. IIRC they split the tapes according to a break in the concert - costume change???

I had the double Lovesexy set (though reunited on a single cassette as per the second print, but not merged as a single show as on the LD): both parts opened with opening credits on the Erotic City drums intro, and ended with end credits on the crowd noise that originally followed Anna Stesia. Strangely enough the first half of Intermission was missing at the beginning of Lovesexy 1 (remember part one and part 2 were switched in order to put the focus on Lovesexy songs).

Unfortunately this original version seems lost forever as no one has yet ripped the original VHS (we have no less than 3 different video rips: the original broadcast, the Japanese broadcast and the LD rip, but no one cared to rip the original release), and I wonder if there are even any copy left in good condition after 26 years. I stupidely threw mine away years ago because the sound was fucked with some hiss and anyway I got rid of my last VCR at the same time so all my cassettes became useless. It's a real pity to have an original release of a video album lost like that sad

That's y I asked about how Double Live was on the double release. It was still a single product as opposed to Lovesexy that was sold separately, so I guess it was as such with a brutal break between both cassettes, but I thought it'd be worth asking smile

It edits very smoothly.

Volume One ends with the coda to the performance of 'God' with the monlogue ('there's this purple suspicion that lurks in mind' etc), culminating in Prince getting in the bath, with the synth strings in the background as the camera pans out in the darkness.

The screen then shows:

Prince And The Revolution
Live

usng the fonts on the release, followed by:

Continued on Volume Two

(There are no credits)

----------

Volume Two starts with:

Prince And The Revolution

Live

followed by:

Volume Two

The video recording of the concert then starts in virtual darkness with:

'Wendy?'

'Yes, Lisa'

and 'Compuer Blue' begins.

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I love you! Thx so much!

Just one last question: is the crowd noise audio at the end of cassette 1 modified by a fade out (which wouldn't be on the LD) or is it an abrupt audio ending?

I never knew there was a two VHS cassette version. The only one I have ever seen (and own) is the single VHS version. Was it originally released as two and then condensed down to one?

Yes, and the title of the video album was altered from Double Live to Live to reflect the change.

I still have my VHS tapes of the Lovesexy show. It´s strange that they got part 1 and 2 mixed up back then. This shouldn´t really happen with a legit release.

I also own two VHS tapes of the Syracuse show. Never knew that it came out as a two cassette set. My VHS tape is a single cassette version and contains the full show.

Back then I liked it so much (still do) that I bought another copy at a second hand store because I thought it´s quite rare, and it was dirtcheap because nobody buys VHS tapes these days.

I also own the Undertaker VHS.....never knew that these tapes were considered "rare". Are they really? I mean, they were legit releases and I think it´s easy to find a cheap one, isn´t it?

It was no accident, it was done so for marketing purposes: the second part of the show focused on Lovesexy while the first part was more focused on P's past catalogue and either P or someone at Polygram wanted first video album to focus on the new album and the second one to be the best of one, probably assuming it'd boost sales.

Whether Prince was consulted about it IDK, u'd guess yes and I assume the whole thing was edited at Paisley Park anyway, but as it was a Europe only release then again maybe he wasn't. Given that it sort of ruined the whole redemption concept of the show, I'm surprised he allowed it to happen.

The show's order was reinstalled, and the show unsplited anyway, on the laserdisc edition, released some time later.

As you said, it kind of ruins the whole concept about redemption and the whole idea of what the Lovesexy show was about, so I´d guess NO. lol

I never knew that there was a plan behind it. After all these years, one still learns something new.
