I like Scandalour Sex Suite as well, but he already did it! I guess that's why I don't understand a the Revelation hype...? I think the two songs are in the same key, and a similar tempo, hence my boredom with it How'm I gonna fill this empty room...

HNR2 is a first for Prince - it is Prince's first studio album to be released in December. This is MEGA!!!!!

contrary to what most seem to think. i'm loving this album very VERY much.
slap it on a disc and i will double dip the disc, just to be able hear it twice as much.

Agree completely! The flute really adds a texture to it that takes it to another level Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I think most seem to like it, I've seen mainly positive comments. . The more I listen to it the more I'm digging it. I'm hitting repeat on Revelation and Look At Me, Look At U. Only weak track on it for me is Baltimore.

Don't have time for a full-blown review and still need to listen more, but wanted to share a few scattered thoughts and reactions.
Mostly love the album. I liked Phase 1 also but this is much more substantial and closer to a full-fledged Prince manifesto. I wholeheartedly agree with those who have said this is a mature piece of work and that it exudes warmth. I also agree with those that say it lacks bite as there is his sense of edginess, danger and darkness from many past works is mostly absent. Despite that it compensates in other ways.
I was impressed by AOA but that album is not one I feel compelled to go back to listen to repeatedly because it is too downtempo and melancholy. Phase II is joyous and jubilant throughtout, and that is infectious. It is his most extensive use of horns ever on an album and so again he is still doing different things. I am floored every time I think about his entire body of work, with all its different flavors and that almost 40 years in he is STILL producing at this level in terms of quality and quantity. There has never been anyone like him, and never will be.
Parts of Phase II remind me of Parade and Lovesexy and Rainbow Children (all albums I love), and also some of the better stuff he has done through the years with protege acts. Anyone consider that he may have a master vision with the HitNRun series and that is why the last tracks of Phase I were so much more organic sounding and closer to the feel of Phase II? Also, anyone notice Phase II kicks off with Baltimore and end with Big City, of which Baltimore of course is one? I think that is intentional. However, my biggest quandary with Phase II is that it begins with my 2 least favorite tracks. Baltimore and RnR Love Affair just are not up to the rest IMO.
Love the jazzy feel to some of the tracks like Look at Me and Black Muse. People have mentioned but it brought to mind cool 1970s jazz and Steve Wonder's Wonderlove band. Love the keyboards. Like many I too prefer the original Xtraloveable but think it works well on this disc and the groove at the end if insane. Speaking of which, several tracks have exceptional codas.
All in all, so far have to give this a solid 8 out of 10. Among my top post-1990 top 5 (along with Symbol, TGE, TRC, LotusFlower).

I listened to it once, all the way through, on TIDAL. Nothing truly grabbed me and I haven't revisited it in a week.

Really enjoyable, uplifting album! If this was released first instead of HnR P1, would have got a lot more positive publicity IMO, i think it beats that and beats AOA for sure! P back to what he does best, funk, ballads n horns! Now on Itunes, hope a physical release will follow. A great present

I really wish we were still in an era of B-Sides. This album's singles would be the perfect addition. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

This. A thousand times, this. Whenever P puts out some half-baked album, it's damned frustrating...because we KNOW he can do better. He has the talent, and an entire vault that has many great tunes that the general public hasn't heard. We all know crap like New Power Soul or 20ten is beneath his abilities as an artist. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Wow. Now way to be but blunt. That sucked. Phase 1 was okay and at least showed that Prince had some interest in collaborating on production. I almost had hopes that he would get some radio play. But this album of bad songs that sound like they were recorded in a garage is such a huge step backwards.
Music is so deparate for Prince to be relevant. Sure he's respected, but when the only thing people want to hear is 20 years old, then its over. <sigh>

Where are the credits/liner notes? This is one of the things I hate about streaming and downloads. They don't do justice to the buyer for things liek cover art and other data associated with an album other than the music. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

Agreed. I think the production on this album is the best we've had in a long time. Nice rich and warm sound. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I find that "I don't like it therefore it must have been done cheap" line of thought just strange. It's like how some people don't like some track that's heavy on analog synth sounds and think those sounds must have been done with a "Casio" (whereas the synths might have been some of the most expensive ones out there).
