Love that song, can't believe the biggest issue people had about it was that it wasn't called Berlin Wall.

The song isn't about The Berlin Wall per se. It's about that feeling of exuberance when the wall came down and how it compares to what he does with his woman. In that regard, it doesn't matter if it was yesterday or a thousand years ago, the feeling is the same.

Lol...I can't believe people are taking the fall of the Berlin Wall as a literal statement in this song.

I know!! That cracks me up too. I guess not all understand the lyrics or try to understand. That is my favorite song on the album and that album is also one of my absolute favorites by Prince. I love the way he chooses to use the "wall of berlin" as the reference for when the panties drop!! Classic Prince!!

Wasn't this a dusted off outtake from back in the day? With original lyrics, "She goes down like the wall in Berlin?"

biggrin exactly what I've always thought. His timing has always been way off though I suppose.

I do like it though - distinctive Sonny T and Michael B sound

Then I guess it's high time people stop saying "crossed the Rubicon" or "met his Waterloo", cuz you know, timing!

I like the track - it's clearly from the mid nineties & reminds me of Calhoun Square.

But my issue is that it doesn't fit. Sure, it's a guitar track like several others on the album are, but there's a Sixties influence to alot of the other tracks which isn't present on this. This clearly has Princes nineties sound & sticks out like a sore thumb.

Alot of people complain about Planet Earth being a mish-mash, but I think the same argument could be levelled (to a lesser extent) at Lotusflower.

hmmm

to be honest i've never thought it didn't fit in. to me, it fits in perfectly with the rest smile
this whole album sounds like an actual 'album', something a lot of the later ones don't
manage imo. it feels cohesive and quite focussed. i love it, start to finish.

yes that's why I love Lotusflow3r, it's a brilliant effort and sounds like a real album with not one bad song. It felt like Prince was finally releasing some of his best songs unlike now whe keeps his best material locked in the vault for some strange reason

I concede that - by Princes standards - there is some cohesion and he appears to have put some thought into it - the Lotus intro & outro and (what I perceive as) his interpretations of the musical styles of other artists from the sixties. But I just don't think WoB fits in. Nor "$", despite being a good track.

It actually makes me think that Prince could have delivered a more consistent, guitar-heavy version of Chaos & Disorder by including Interactive, Calhoun Square, Walls of Berlin & Strays of the World.

In fact, I think I'm off to compile such a playlist now!
