Listened to it yesterday. Wowsa! Silly question though. Did they play ALL of his songs with the starting letter or just picked up specific songs?

Definitely not all, but a very extensive collection. The marathon would definitely be longer than 24 hours if they tried to play everything.

To give you an idea: I heard at least 4 tracks of The Black Album just randomly listening throughout the marathon. On the other hand, they stopped at "Wow", which means we heard nothing from Xpectation. And while those are obviously instrumentals, they did play "The Plan". So yeah, it seems like they just played what they could.

What a great idea and a treat! Is there any other artists they could do that with? Serious question.

The DJ said they were going to try to come up with other events like this one... Sounds like it was a smashing success. smile

100 X's & O's! Man, they just won't stop!

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Many thanks and much love to Prince Rogers Nelson, and all the staff at The local Current and everyone who contributed to this brilliant showcase of music!!! It was incredibly enjoyable and you guys did an absolutely amazing and monumental job. Please make this an annual tradition and also continue to support and showcase local and independent artists!

.

Some tips for 2016, if/when The Current does this again:

  1. Does he have any songs starting with Q? Prince might need to remedy this.
  2. Play "X's Face". (Plus Prince got a whole album of jazz songs that start with the letter X.
  3. include "Young and Beautiful" for Y.
  4. end the marathon on "Zannalee".

Much heart out all the fans who were able to tune in! It was major fun hanging out with you guys for most of the past 24 hours. rainbow

Not suggesting anything...but I just made a donation to MPR for the greatest 24 hours of radio ever.

I'll be doing the same! It's clear they put a lot of work and thought into this and it was EXCELLENT. Thanks, Current, you rock. music

By the way, did anyone manage to grab the whole A-Z playlist? Would love to see it but my browser isn't letting me look back through everything.

Elton John, Stevie Wonder...

It would be interesting to see if the other sessions would grow stale throughout the marathon. Part of the experience was checking around for other fans' reactions, so maybe checking in with a couple of fan sites for each artist would help.
