Are you saying you want a topic that evolves each week, is constantly updated and sought out by most users every Monday to be made a sticky? Surely that would make it all too easy to find and contribute to. No. im glad they took down the original sticky with the chronological list of each pick of the week. It made life too easy. smile

I agree 100%. I guess Prince was right, the internet is dead.

I'm beginning to think that the only reason this site is still around is because it's easy to remember "www.prince.org". Come to think of it, my lazyness probably is the only reason that I haven't migrated to a different prince site... yet.

There is some movement.. Hair is no longer in Tidal's header as PPOTW.

I noticed that, but nothing relacing it either. Is it too soon to declare that the lingering death of the purple pick has finally happened?

Could be, but if I remember well last week PP was announced as the 'first pick of the year'.

Haven't seen P on twitter today either. Maybe they are waiting for him to announce a new track or something. Maybe change of plans, who knows..

How about a David Bowie song for
this week's purple pick?
I mean there are no rules on
what's picked so why not.

Could be - but they might also be holding off as a sign of respect for Bowie's passing, or perhaps he's indicated that he wants to put up "Ruff Enuff" (as his tweets last week might have hinted) and they're waiting for him to deliver the track?

I think the only rule is that Prince is curating the pick, and I don't know if there was any relationship between him and Bowie?

Would be respectfull and he can bring Ruff Enuff later this week.

Purple Pick of the Week: “RUFF ENUFF”

Purple Pick of the Week features new tracks, exclusives, rarities and more — curated personally by Prince.

This week’s pick is the fresh and funk-inflicted song “RUFF ENUFF” by MONO NEON.

Introducing the track for us, NPG Records writes:

“You may recognize Kirk A Johnson on drums, Mono Neon on bass and Adrian Crutchfield on sax and electric woodwinds as the house band 4 Prince’s Paisley Park After Dark Jam Sessions. Well, that’s not all they do. 4 the past week they’ve been cutting basic trax 4 their as yet untitled debut album. With Prince producing and handling the keyboard & guitar duties, the set promises 2 b picking up right where Judith Hill’s BACK IN TIME left off. These brothas murder the funk! Normally they wouldn’t let a track out until it’s finished, but this one had 2 go! It was ruining everybody’s good loox. If U think U can resist the funk, check out the key change of Mono’s bass solo at near 4 oclockmark. Exactly.

Awesome Purple pick.

I don't like the track and shan't listen again, not my cup of tea, I like Prince singing. But I'm not gonna grumble as it's new Prince music, which is what the pick should be. Great to see.

what I'm worried about is that in the article it says "picking up right where Judith Hill’s BACK IN TIME left off" and I didn't like Judith's album except for one track (can't remember it's name)

i liked the production of it and the instrumentation so i'm kind of curious smile

did you not like the songs themselves? or was it her vocals or something
else like the production?

now that you mention the comment about it being a sister to free urself,
i guess it could be a 'demo' version in that it's a mono track now, as an
instrumental and it will be a 'prince' track when it has vocals?

it sort of fits when you put it inbetween FreeUrself and IECGUAttention,

as in, it doesn't seem too out of place.

who knows. i like it though smile

The production was good, I just didn't like the songs. Beautiful life was the only really good song on that album smile yes it's possible that it's a demo he released now and we get one with vocals on the album

did you not like the song that has prince on vocals for a verse or a bridge or whatever it is?
it's the one called "wild tonight". such a nice song.

but it sort of sounds a bit like the stuff on bria valente's "elixir" and although i love that cd
as well, i know many people really hate it biggrin

also, the title track that was finally released when the album got a decent release is pretty
cool with some nice guitarwork by prince. cool

I agree, this is what we wanted for the PP, even though I really don't like this track.

To be honest, after a day of listening to a lot of music (and a lot of Bowie), for me it felt like someone is playing on their My First Sony.. only the second part gets a bit more interesting.

But nice to see a lot of you are enjoying it!

Totally agree on the Judith album - I love Wild Tonight, Love Trip and Turn Up. I like the live funky sound. I'd be happy to get an album in that vein. Ruff Enuff is ok but I'm not mad on instrumentals.
