last week i was in a used record store looking for rare albums and i came across an album by Prince that i had never heard of before called Purple Rain (it's the one with the motorbike on the cover)
it's very exciting when you can find a rare gem like this...i had thought Prince's debut album was called "Musicology" but i looked at the back of the Purple Rain album and it states 1984! and i could not believe my eyes that he was around that long..but anyway i recommend this album for all fans who have not heard it...it may be hard to track down but maybe you will be lucky and find it in a used to record store
WTF????? |

You should amp up the funny factor again, Georgie!
And we all know 'Pop Life' is the b-side of the 'Scarlet Pussy'-single.

Sure, but most are unaware that Eric Clapton plays bass on both those tracks since he recorded under the name Chris Gaines. 1982 was such a great year for music. If you get a chance, seek out the Pop Life remix that features LL Cool J rapping about Donald Trump. That one's ahead of it's time by decades!!

Right, right, it WAS Eric Clapton on those tracks. And because the 'don't talk 2 Prince'-rule was strictly enforced in '81/'82 - after he had become a global superstar with the Bambi-single, Eric wasn't able to tell Prince about that great track While My Guitar Gently Weeps*, and therefore Prince never heard it until a few years back.
* on which Eric plays Hammond organ.
And you ever noticed that LL gives off a definite Under The Cherry Moon vibe in NCIS?

Damn. Now we have a problem because George said on another thread that he doesn't like songs with dirty words in them. Maybe it's for the better that he can't find an album that opens with a song called Pussy Control... |

You'll love Controversy. There aren't any risque songs at all since it was released when Prince was a Scientologist. Some people think the last track is risque, but they don't realize that, in the '80s, Jack U Off was a euphamism for a foot message with no tickle. Prince wrote it for Cher, whom he was dating at the time, to tease her about her infamous man-sized feet. She was a good sport though, and even appeared (and showed her feet!) in the video.
If you get it on vinyl make sure it has the poster. It's not risque either. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

Yep, the funny factor has been amped up again thanks to the DJ!
I love the Controversy poster, I have it in my bathroom.
After that album you need to check out Prince' last release of the 20th century: 1999, which features an anthem for gay rights (Let's Pretend We're Married), a hymn for world peace
(International Lover) and a dancefloor stomper that warns against the dangers of TTIP (DMSR).
Phil Collins famously ripped off one of the b sides (How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore) for
one of his own big hits (Billy Don't You Lose My Number).
