If Prince is so litigious - Televisa Presenta? So, I'm watching "El Chapulin Colorado" a.k.a. "The Red Grasshopper" on Netflix and what comes up first? The Televisa Presenta logo with the intro for "We March."
Same for "El Chavo;" both feature super-comedian Chespirito.
This logo, sampling "We March" is on their whole network; or at least it has been for years.
How could Prince, who is so litigious allow this for so long? I know that some in his camp had to have been aware of this...
Answers?
BTW, the actual content of "El Chapulin Colorado" is filled with stolen music; they took a huge chunk of "Psycho" - but that's not what this is about......

It's been said that sound was a sample from a collection. But I don't know...

Probably because it´s not even ten seconds long? Is that even a proper sample if it´s that short? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Im pretty sure Prince doesn't watch much televisa.. Maybe Mayte does, but they've probably been divorced longer than they started using that sample. Change it one more time..

Would be interesting if it was from a sample CD, I knew Prince used them for sound efx but didn't know of him using a musical portion like this. Anybody happen to know what sample series it might be from? ¡The Future Is Ours, If You Can Count! https://www.youtube.com/w...A_zTY0qWWk

No. That's why it's sooo cool that Netflix has subtitles. Of course I've seen these shows before on Spanish television but I never knew what they were saying. The "translation" is priceless! [Edited 11/10/15 20:57pm]

But, come on, someone is his camp has seen this. It's been on for years and it's hard to miss if you flip channels through the Spanish language stations.

This is TV licencing, it pays good money and is a great source of extra income for many musicians. Prince is litigious when he believes his music is being used without payment or unsufficient payment, and anyway he doesn't deal personally with every TV channel that wants to licence 15 seconds of his stuff for a jingle, his rights administrators do all that stuff and it's close to automatic licencing. Same with rappers sampling his tracks. Besides the masters to this one track belonged to WB until last year so WB had the power to negociate those sampling deals (as long as songwriting fees were paid as well). No big deal really and IDK why all those allegations of "stolen music" unless maybe this is a program from some Latin American country that doesn't care about copyright laws (if they still don't but I'd assume the US would have tamed them all by now ). Considering that this is, yes, "some Latin American country that doesn't care about copyright laws" I always wondered if Warners, or anyone, ever sold the rights to this. Are there ANY other examples where Prince's music has been appropriated for something like this? Any?

I've heard snippets (sometimes as short as 2, 3 seconds) of Prince tracks being used on French TV, in jingles or programs, on several occasions. I would assume rights were paid, u don't get away with copyright infringement too easily in France, particularly if u're a major TV channel (a small local radio or TV station may get away with it but national TV, I think they clear their rights for sure). Over here in Germany they use his music all the time, mostly older songs like Erotic City or other sex related songs, including songs up until the Emancipation era. Mostly during shows that discuss sex or love related topics.

And I see that u decided to revisit this topic since 2013... http://prince.org/msg/7/402454 [Edited 11/12/15 9:27am]

Don't get me wrong: IDK anything about a sound fx CD, P has been known to use them b4 but since it's not been reported formally in that case I assume it is not the case. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I'm reading what I wrote and it seems like I was saying the revisit thing about you. I had meant to refer that part to sro100. Oopsy. I didn't meant to sound like a douche.

No it's cool u could have assumed I was stating it was a licencing case vs. a sound fx CD, I ignored the allegations of sound fx because there was no known ground for them but I should have been more specific. Televisa por mucho tiempo a usado "we march" al comienzo o al final de sus programas. Prince a pasado tiempo en Mexico y creo que esta conciente y de acuerdo.
