Since the summer of 1987. I was aware of Prince, obviously, but a friend sat me down and made me LISTEN to "Sign 'O' The Times", and... well, that was that.

It was kinda hard following him through the 90's, not because of him,
but musically there was so much going on...

Jeff Buckley, Eels, Massive Attack, The Chemical Bros., Prodigy...

It would have been great to be a zealot and assist to the concerts.
I would have chant "Prince. Is Dead." out of my lungs.

But his first steps into the web, the whole absurdity of Come/TGE, Lovesign, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World... It looked like a mess, but I kept on buying every output, Girl 6 only for "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" and such.

I miss the real extravaganza of the period. The NPG and The Revolution are two different beasts. When I keep hearing astounding versions of Shhh, no matter the venue, I regret I wasn't more hardcore but hey, I was starting a family. Not easy being a fan when there are other priorities. Prince demands too much attention, but nothing new here. He always did.

You're either with him, or against him. And so goes The Org.

Eye still have ALL my Right On! Magazines. It was the first publication prince ever interviewed with! In fact he use to call the office begging for them to interview him when prince was unknown.

November 1991 was when I heard Cream and that hooked me straight into Prince fandom.

So we have 24 years now.

.

Compared to most of you though, I am a Johnny come lately!!!!

.

Nothing but love for anyone who came into Prince before the 1999 Album era, you guys are the true funk soldiers!!! But I have nothing but entire love for anyone who digs the master of purple funk!

I will admit there was a period of indifference between 1998 and 2005, between the release of NPS and Musicology. But I was getting my ass educated and degrees and shit and was still digging Prince, but not his new shit then. 2005 with Musicology bought me back and when the 3121 album was released on March 22 2006, i was first in line to buy it!!! Never looked back!

I remember getting 1999 new out-of-box behind cashier on day of release. I wore out that LP. I have probably owned 10 different 1999 albums.

I was turned onto Dirty Mind by a 7th grade friend who played me all the dirty parts in the back room of class. It was so subversive. Especially considering the glossy presentation of Black artists at the time.

2 and a half years. 3121 was the album that got me interested. I actually worked my way backwards through his catalogue from 20Ten, with the exception of 3121, as I had already heard it by then.

Let's see, I liked the song Soft and Wet but at the time I was thinking it was more like Tom Browne or George Duke where this musician named Prince featured a female vocalist. Wasn't a fan of the albums Prince and Dirty Mind but crawled onboard from Controvery til the Present so I guess for about 34 yrs consistently.

You'll have to listen to some 80's billboard crap if you want to have a clear idea of how much he's been revolutionary.

His influence on nowadays sound and production tricks is vast. Much of it originates in the Golden Era. Don't miss the videos matching the albums : PR Live, The Detroit '86 Birthday Concert, SOTT The Movie, Livesexy '88.

I was wondering If I'm a real Prince fan. I've only Purchased 25 of his albums but I've heard all of them ( I think) Out of all the albums he's put out I only like about 100 Prince songs which is pretty small considering the amount of material he's put out in the last 37yrs
