And regarding promotion (who cares btw), Bowie hasn't toured/performed in years. I disagree strongly with the notion that Bowie has only put out five lukewarm albums since 1995. Outside (1995) is excellent. Earthling (1997) is very strong. Hours (1999) is fairly weak. Heathen (2002) is very good. Reality (2003) is also very good. The Next Day (2013) was amazing. Plus, if we're gonna talk about people releasing lukewarm albums since 1995, it's a good thing we're on Prince.org because Prince is the KING of post-1995 lukewarm albums. Let's not confuse quantity with quality. The Org is hypercritical of Prince, but what can be lost in the discussion is his underrated work during the last years. During that timeframe P has officially released TWENTY albums : Gold- Good Chaos and Disorder- Rolling Stone called it one of the most underrated of the year Emancipation- One great disc The Vault- Cool, still listen to a lot Rainbow Children- Brilliant One Nite Alone- Very Good News- Interesting experiment Musicology- Some highlights, average 3121- Good LotusFlower- Very Good AOA- Cool

I'm a big fan of TRC, even if I don't agree with the lyrical content from a "political" standpoint. It was a great example of Prince doing music that seemed more mature and appropriate for him as a human being who actually ages (despite what his physical appearance often belies!). Other songs from the albums you listed are also good examples: Reflection and Way Back Home being the two that come to mind first.

See...that's what I mean. Even on an album everyone on the Org despises, there are still gems buried in the mix. I adore On The Couch.

Do people on here not like musicology? I really like that album. It's true what you said though. I know Hitnrun is an album most people on here don't like, judging from the comments I've read over the last few months. I have to say, it is my least favourite Prince album. But having said that, 1000 Hugs and Kisses is one of my all time favourite songs. I love it. Fallinlove2nite and hardrocklover are pretty good too. And June. That's good. So even on an album I don't like, there's still some good stuff.

Nice theory, but WRONG.
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/bruce-springsteen-2015-tour/
Springsteen, unlike Prince, has continued to tour regularly & release new (& old content) regularly. Next theory?

It wasn't a bad album, but I don't think it was stellar, either. After Rainbow Children, which was as unlistenable as it was experimental, NEWS & Xpectation, a lot of fans simply wanted something passably Prince again. Of his by the numbers R&B, it's one of the better ones. [Edited 11/30/15 6:34am] [Edited 11/30/15 6:39am]

So that ruins the overall album for me. I'd say you're right about Prince seeing it as a disposable risk. Fingers crossed the next album will be better. Maybe even one that pleases EVERYONE on the org

Has any commercially released Prince album died a quicker death than "HITNRUN"? 2 months in and nobody's talking about it. It's back to "Parade" & "Purple Rain" topics. Interesting.
