Why do you think The Truth was buried...

...as just a bonus disc on Crystal Ball, as opposed to given a 'proper' release?

sad

Prince was Scared.I mean if that Album came out before "Crystal ball" who is gonna Buy it besides Fans? when you Bury a Record like that you are Afraid of tanking.Prince should have dropped that Unlug back in 92 or 93&He missed the Boat on that IMHO.

Since the amazing artwork from Crystal Ball, draned all of his creativity, he wasn't able to also do such a great job on the The Truth album.
Since he didn't want to release a cd with crappy artwork, he released it with Crystal Ball, so The Truth could also go with this amazing piece of artwork design. nod
True...!

I think it would have been commercially risky for Prince to release 'The Truth' as a "proper" release. It's a great album, but let's face it,it would have flopped with mainstream audiences. So,it made sense to release it as part of 'CB',since it's the type of album that mostly his diehard fans would like.

But if he HAD released it the normal way,the song "Dionne" would have made an excellent first single smile

Hmm. I think it would have had the potential to be a hit in the UK - I mean, not a massive million-seller, but certainly a hit. If he'd come over and promoted it by doing an acoustic show on something like 'Later with Jools Holland', maybe a session on Radio 1 as well, I think it would have really taken off, as well as restoring his reputation with the critics.

I think he just wanted to get it out as quick as poss.

It was gonna be the follow-up to Emancipation on EMI right?

So when EMI fell through, he just wanted to get the record out so folks could hear it.

that's what I thought anyhooo.

I always envisioned Prince releasing a sprawling personal masterpiece of an album entitled The Dawn after Emancipation. It would have been a cross between The Truth and The Rainbow Children. He would have"promoted" it by playing unplugged on various t.v. shows and performing at more intimate venues.
Instead we got 3 discs of interesting but not very profound remixes and a brilliant cd of new material tacked on at the end.
We then got New Power Soul and Rave...not very profound statements at all...

Thank goodness for The Rainbow Children.

Scared? Maybe. Is it possible he would make less money from a mainstream release?

hmm

Since when did Prince stop releasing albums in the mainstream because he was worried it wouldn't be a massive hit?

The Rainbow Children is receiving a mainstream release in the UK at the end of this month.
