Marco81 said: I wish people who talk about reading interviews where Prince mentioned it to be 1 cd or 2 cds, would actually spend 5 to 10 mins looking for the article and posting the link here.
Otherwise it's just one of those myths, someone starts a rumour, which becomes "reality" in people's minds in 5 minutes.
Sources please! I don't have a link or remember which interview it was but I'm 100% he said last year while showing a journalist round PP, the remaster would have no extras and it was for the fans and people who like to look back etc . If that is the case there's no point in WB releasing it. The sound quality of PR is OK so I wouldn't be rushing to buy a new 1. Of course it would be a different story with SOTT...

WRONG. IIRC Prince's quote was more or less "what's the big deal, it's the same album" and people here JUMPED on this and decided that it meant no bonus material. "it's the same album" doesn't mean "no bonus material", this is just everyone putting some additional meaning to a statement that basically doesn't tell us anything at all about the content. It may mean no bonus material, but it may just mean Prince was talking about the big deal people make of remasters regardless of any possible bonus material. Their reaction was that they stopped working on the project. I can understand both sides. "You can skate around the issue if you like,

You believe Prince thinks bonus material is no big deal then? I believe that if he thinks the remaster is no big deal (it's the same album) then there is no bonus material, and I'll believe otherwise when I see it. What?

You could be right, maybe he did say that but what else would 'it's the same album' mean?! . If it were to have extra tracks/bonus material it wouldn't be the same album would it

^ We don't know what Prince meant, period. We can speculate on the meaning of an ambiguous statement as long as we want, fact is that he didn't say anything clearly and that interpretation isn't quote. I stopped giving a fuck months ago. It's too annoying to try to believe Prince will someday care about his back catalog. At the risk of earning Databank's mockery, I'll be over here jamming to my awesome new Dylan & Springsteen box sets (Dylan this Friday, Bruce next month). They're artists who know the value of unreleased work and high-quality remasters of early albums. [Edited 11/5/15 7:50am] "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Yes. Because he's not at the same place now and if i was him, i would not be glad to released some unfinished songs. And, on the Warner side, it doesn't make sense to sell another version of PR only because of the "better" sound. "You can skate around the issue if you like,

It's really hard NOT to hate being a Prince fan. He's the biggest douche in the business toward fans

I'm sorry, but it's beyond foolish to continue to make lame ass excuses for Prince's antics! How come every other artist don't seem to have any problem putting out remasters of their earlier work, but ALWAYS Prince has problems with this. The answer is sooo obvious...because it's HIS doing! Prince has an track record of not honoring contracts with record companies, and his outright refusal to give his fans what they want. For instance, remember when Prince said he was gonna release that "Essential Live Concert DVD"? Gee...guess what...it never f-in happened! We're talking about a person who starts and deletes all of his social media accounts, just because he can. At this point....Prince can just keep his music, no one really cares anymore. So true. I haven't legally purchased a Prince record since 3121 and I'm really only a fan of his WB albums. Quality Control went out the window after that.

Is this a legal release? Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Is it possible Prince's religious beliefs partially brought about the remaster's cancellation? Perhaps he wanted to edit/censor songs like "Darling Nikki" and the record company objected?

Oh well, screw it.I don't care anymore.I'm too busy enjoying my 21-disc Isley Brothers box set filled with alot of bonus tracks, including a previously unreleased live album from 1980! Other artists and bands know exactly what their diehard fans want and they deliver!!

Nice! Meanwhile, Neil Finn of Crowded House is putting together a Box Set for release next year of dozens of Unreleased tracks and rarities-- he's discussed looking back with fondness, and how good the stuff is, and how it's "being lovingly curated". I think of Prince and wonder if he's even capable of those emotions toward his past and the desire to share it with his fans. And what makes him tick and how much he actually appreciates his former band mates and his fans. It's just a very odd situation.

This is pretty much what I suspected had happened. I also think it's fairly likely that the remastering wasn't very good if Prince did it himself. It doesn't exactly seem to be something he's very good at. So there's no real reason why Warners would want to release a remaster that sounds worse than the original and contains no bonus material.
It really saddens me. I don't believe that vault material will ever be released in Prince's lifetime, which probably means it won't be released in mine either.
I don't believe in all this "no point in looking back" stuff though. I think that deep down, in that place where he doesn't want to look, Prince knows damn well that the music he makes now is hugely inferior to the music he made in the 80s. I believe that he thinks releasing vault material would be an admission of the fact that his creative well is dry.
