The fact that it is the perfect movie for Prince fans is exactly the reason it was a flop: there just aren't enough of us to make a feature film a success! Purple Rain was a success because (almost) every kid dreams of being famous and so it was a story everybody could relate to. UTCM wasn't. And there wasn't enough music in it. |

I looked at Under the Cherry Moon this past weekend after having not seen it since when I saw it at the movies the year it came out. I must admit, I found it to be pretty enjoyable. I had a handful of hearty, hearty laughs. Prince actually was pretty funny in the role. The movie was really campy and had the vibe of a film made by a student in college. A fun movie if not taken seriously.
It is fun....when I first saw it as a teen I thought it was bad. I guess I was looking for another PR, but over the years I've grown to love it I also like old black and white movies so maybe that's why I like it |

Love it. Love the whole look of it. I've shown it to a number of non fans over the yrs & everyone's enjoyed it so far. '86 is my fave era, the look, sound, Katz's photography, the tour & the movie
Love it all....when it first came out I think the movie being black and white threw some people off and caused alot of us to not give it a chance, but looking at it now that look gave it a kinda "sexy quality" that's the only way I can describe it. I loved Kristen, Jerome and that young girl too and Lawd have mercy when Prince rubs himself |

UTCM, this film has a great "Prince spirit"
Aww thanks thedance It really does have that "Prince spirit." It's just a sexy looking movie and not to mention the lines are so corny they're just funny and only Prince could damn near wear pajamas through an entire movie and make that shit sexy |

I always believed that if you TRULY loved Prince - the comprehensive Prince: the art, the style, the humor, the vision, the courage - that you had to like this film. This was when Prince was trying things that no one else had the talent - or the guts - to attempt. He was fearless and wreckless at the same time. And he hit a new high water mark most of the time.

My husband finds Coming to America's story and Under the Cherry Moon's story very similar to one another. Albeit, Coming to America has a happier and better ending! “That’s it” - Prince |

i loved Prince's outfits in the movie. Don't take this the wrong way but my favorite part is when the credits started to roll at the end of the movie and u see Prince and the Band performing "Mountains" - i thought this was the best Prince video I have ever seen. Prince and the band are singing in the clouds and it's such an inspiring posititive song. I wonder if he considers this to be a music video along with the others. Superfunkycalifragisexy! |

UTCM the Song is criminally underrated.
The movie has its charms, but this era was truly creative magic. |

agreed 100% Too bad the movie wasn't directed by a talented Director. Woody Allen or Almodovar could have done wonders with the material. I wonder how the original female director would have shaped it. |

Posted this before but it goes with this thread. I've been listening to this podcast for a while. Must be a fan since they have included a few Prince clips like the computer voice from Gold Experience and one of the hosts is from Mpls.
