I recall that band members (Michael B?) told in interviews how they were upset when early versions of the album had leaked before it was released. Perhaps that was the catalyst to change the sound of the album? Then again, D&P was Prince trying real hard to score a hit.

I feel almost as if this is Prince's original vision before bringing in the lesser talents of the NPG. The end result is more commercial, but also more tacky.

Downloaded this one this morn, but haven't had the chance to listen. You guys are gettin' me excited!

It's just a collection of unfinished songs, work in progress.

I don't believe these are originals as the sleeve says.

agreed, but it's such a highly produced album that it's worth a listen to hear it in progress. Kinda like the T. Rex alternate album versions that were (officially) released over the years.

I would like also someday to give a listen to one of the first configurations of "The Gold Experience", that with "Strength" and "The Coca-Cola Theme".

Talking of this version of D&P, I have to say I find it really interesting.

Obvious highlight is the alternate version "Insatiable", but I also find really nice the more stripped down version of "Diamond & Pearls".

Without Rosie and with less musical embellishment it sounds more "Princely", in a strange way it shares musical feelings with "Love Thy Will Be Done", to say one. I really like it.

I like hearig "lay down your funky weapon" in the Daddy Pop mix. Cool stuff.

On a side note, I would like to ask a thing.

On Princevault there are listed several alternate configurations of P releases, and many of them have tracklist and specification in a way more precise than others.

Looking for example at the page of "Graffiti Bridge" you can find this one:

BoraBora - that configuration is most certainly circulating, since Princevault has descriptions of every track, including ones "nobody" has heard like "Bloody Mouth" and "Stimulation".

This is probably the source of the circulating versions of Melody Cool, The Grand Progression, Big Tall Wall, etc.

meh... no holy grail... people r making too much of a big deal about this.

While I am thankful to be able to hear these, the released versions definately blow these away!! Its always cool though to hear the rough demo versions before it gets spruced up though.
