Princes production work on Back In Time How involved was he with his record. I hear his vocals here and there. Not all over it...but that nickel around. Some of the instruments I can necessarily peg to Prince. Does anyone have the production info? I've especially been hung up on Cry, Cry, Cry tonight...on a little obsessive kick. Not typically my kinda Prince 'go to' track. Who were the lyrics...Judith or Prince. I'd also like to see if I could get a little help with 'em. Any help welcome...but the brackets especially. I know u been hurting for a long time Seems like another day that never ends Oh!...those long nights [A/that lovers still find/so fine???] A lover, yes. But more than that a true friend. Maybe they did things to hurt you But baby they don't deserve you When all is said and done A change is gonna come I need you to Cry, Cry, Cry A little bit longer I need you to Try, Try, Try To get by whatever comes your way I need you to Cry, Cry, Cry A little bit longer [feels like the long day of the soul???] but tomorrow's a new day I hope and pray we'll remember One day, its gonna be alright [but who oh...your heartache] ain't gonna' last for forever After the midnight cry comes the morning light Baby Uve been through the fire But baby's you's a fighter When all is said and done A change is gonna come I need you to Cry, Cry, Cry A little bit longer I need you to Try, Try, Try To get by whatever comes your way Cry, Cry, Cry A little bit longer [naw feels like the long day of the soul??] but tomorrow's a new day Maybe they did things to spite you But only two wrongs make a right to fools when all is said and done a change is gonna come change is gonna If only you Cry, Cry, Cry A little bit longer now I need you to Try, Try, Try To get by I know you suffering [nothings long???] but I bet u now it'll make u strong if you cry, cry, cry mmmmhmmmm yeah Cry, yeah... Cry... Cry... Cry... Cry...

If that's true...that's great. I was scamming princevault....soem if the info assumed re: writing. Seems P stuck to guitar and bass. Again...I'm not completely sold to the accuracy of the production info...but will take it untill the 23 when maybe more info about the record is released. I hope a physician copy with liner notes emerges. I live digital music and it confidence. I do utterly miss the booklets with at least somewhat accurate(unless P fudged some for $ paid to skmekne and various other incidents) production info tho. Seeing written as to who did what when and where.

He was not being sued for playing guitar and bass.

Why is it being assumed that Prince only played guitar and bass on 'Back In Time'? "He's a musician's musician..."

Personally, my guess is his involvement on Back In Time is likely on par with his level of involvement on any other protege album he's worked on at any point in his career. I think he still enjoys having majority creative control on a project as much as he ever did back in the day when the proteges were in full swing. . I'd bet the farm prince wrote the words and not Judith. Very first line has "u" written in place of "you". It shows up a few more times throughout. Classic him. .

Back In Time is the title of Judith Hill's debut album that Prince collaborated on and which he sent around a link to a free download of, earlier this year. He caused a bit of a ruckus over that last stunt, but he's Prince and that's how he roll. The album is slated for official release today, 10/23/2015.

Does anybody has a link to order the CD? ... I've searched both on amazon and ebay, and can't find anything :/

I can't find any CD to purchase either. After looking around trying to find out information on where to buy the new release, I wound on her Facebook page where one or two others were also asking where they can purchase the physical release. For now, at least, you can still find all 11 tracks from the BIT album available for listening at Judith's page on Soundcloud.com. . I'm listening to the tracks in order right now as I'm writing this. "Cure" is playing right now and totally putting a smile on my face at 2:00 am in the morning.

. Say goodbye to the farm: http://www.princevault.co...ck_In_Time .
. Please inform us of how Prince time-traveled to 2012 and wrote those songs for her, years before they actually met. © Bart Van Hemelen

As of now it's a digital only release available on iTunes and also TIDAL is selling the album in your choice of FLAC, MP3 or Apple Lossless (ALAC) much as they did for HitNRun only minus the CD option.

I really like the album. I respect it. It's a little too conservative, for me to get excited about it on the level of the best of the best music. It's an ablum of filler tracks with no lead single, no hysteria, no sex appeal, no pinnache. That's modern Prince for you though, so it just is what it is. On the positive side: the songs are really well-written. Judith's vocals are great and the music and overall vibe of the album are just about perfect. If Prince produced and played on this entire record then it's his most steady effort since The Rainbow Children.

glad they chose Cry as first single..My problem with Andy and Liv's project were the songs they focused on IMHO weren't the best choices.. Wasnt feeling People Pleaser or Why fo u lie or catch me frm liv..Much better songs on tthe CD's

Judith Hill has contradicted this

Are we certain about this? I know some tracks predate Princes involvement, but I don't believe all of them do.

This is a Prince album for me until proven otherwise. Only two songs on here were officially written by Judith, Beautiful Life and My People. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

That's an awesome first single for... 1958! For 2015 not so much. The album needed at least one song that could be a hit. Cry Cry Cry does not have hit potential. At best, it's just a skills showcase for media and awards committees... oh wait, that's the game for Prince isn't it? Awards season!

My bad. When I said I would bet the farm Prince wrote the words and not Judith, I was referring only to the song "Cry Cry Cry" and not the full album, but I see that I did not specify this. I do however, still suspect P. had a hand in writing most of "Cry Cry Cry" as the use of "u" in place of "you" is so closely associated with his style of writing going back to about 1981. It's a historical fact he was much more involved in writing music and lyrics for the Time than the liner notes stated on those albums, so I feel entitled to exploring the possibility he may have a bit more involvement on the Back In Time album than what is presented to the public. . I'm keeping my farm. [Edited 10/25/15 0:09am]

where do we even have song writing credits beyond just guessing. Unless it's just his producting coming through, several of the songs sound like they could have been written by Prince. Cry, Cry, Cry included. Judith Hill has already said he played more instruments than previously thought.

I meant to edit and hit reply. Just to add to above, I mean aside from knowing some songs do predate Prince's involvement. Unless we have been told otherwise, it's a pretty big jump to go from knowing there are some songs Prince didn't write to assuming he didn't write anything at all on an album he produced and performed on. From what I can tell if what Judith has said, she wrote the lyrics to the songs. Maybe with some co-writing help, but she said they would go in and jam on lyrics she had prepared and Prince would flesh a song out of it from what I recall. The writer of the lyrics aren't really my concern tho...its the players and whatnot. I would suspect MonoNeon played bass on As Trains Go By. I can hear Princes co-lead or backing vox. The title track, Back In Time, to me, sounds like Prince showing Josh how to do 'josh'. Pure speculation, but I don't think Josh worked on this at all, but the track shares elements from AOA but sounds better put together than anything else on it. It's sound is better balanced. I'd guess that Judith played piano on Cry Cry Cry. It seems to me she wrote the lyrics as well...doesn't seem like princes M. O. Mostly, I guess the stage performers are the performers on record...KJ on drums...mono-neon and Prince on bass and chunky white dude and Prince on guitar depending on P's mood ... Again...I know nothing...its pure speculation... I just wish this nickel would put production credits on his releases. He has absolutely no continuity to his game plan. Some have lyrics...some don't...some list players, some don't. Nickle...just act right and get your shit together. Ure to old for this b.s. u know people wanna know....stop playing games... I was hoping with the official tidal release, it would have said info under 'track info'...but no, nothing....apparently ghosts made it.

And I miss the DTT. I was trying to get some help with the lyrics....but since P prolly didn't write them, people don't care. It's very difficult for me, for some reason, to follow the lyrics while listening to the song, without having them written out. Whenever I can manage to read the lyrics while listening to the tune, it will have MUCH more impact than with me just listening to it. Without seeing the words, my brain seems to get sidetracked in the music and I lose focus in what's being said. I wrote out the lyrics to Back In Time and flippin teared up!

True to the title Back in Time, the album’s whirlwind recording process was old-school: all-analog, and the result of freeform Paisley Park jam sessions. “It was so inspiring and refreshing, because it was like going back to the old days of just jamming… just hit 'record,’ one take, organic. Nothing was too overthought, just what we felt at the time,” Hill tells Yahoo Music. “His process is really amazing, and I learned a lot… He pushes you to excellence and he just wants the best for you. And he lives in a whole 'nother world. So it rubs off on you, and you just grow so much musically.”
