Some of his background vox on the first Time album almost sound like they just left in the guide tracks or something, especially notice it on Girl.

Did he not sing the lead on Count The Days and Cherry Cherry?

Wasn't that Sonny? eek

Glamorous Life by Sheila E comes to mind people often don't realize that P is backing Sheila for the entire song thus why it's so awesome! And also 7 one of the best layers of P vocals EVER

Now I wanna hear these songs again lol

Could anyone tell me if thats Prince doing background vocals on the Common song Star 69 (ps with love). I know Prince played keys on it but he's not credited as singing. But it does sound like him. A lot like him in some parts.

actually I hear more Bilal on vocals. Prince's vocals are easily recognizable. dont think he's singing on this song.

What about Prince's background vocals for his own recordings? Marvin Gaye is the only other artist I can think of that has layed down such complex harmonies.

I don't think any other artist has mastered it like Prince though...Marvin was great, but Prince's voice is just special.

I could'nt agree more in agreement with both of you. Prince does serious justice to the BG vox on his and protege songs. That man does NOT rest on his laurels. And the ways he arranges the harmonies and even how he chooses the lyrics on the BG tracking, it sounds like he commits himself to the BG singing parts nearly as much as he does with the primary composition. As far back as I can remember he has put his all into creating flawless and compelling background vocals that demand attention without being overpowering. He makes a real art out of it.

Another reason why ADORE is so special. That bridge is absolutely insane.

Best harmonizer I've ever heard.

Other good examples:

Pink Cashmere
7
Saviour
Friend-M-S-L-W
Shockadelica

Best examples I can think of with little instrumentation:

For You
I Love U in Me
Here
