riding around with older prince albums

i've been riding around town listening to older prince albums such as come, the gold experience, emancipation, new power soul, symbol album, batman, chaos and disorder, and to sum up my entire prince collection.

.

i remember when i first listened to these albums, but what surprises me now is how great they sound and how fresh they feel. come, especially, is wowing me all over again.

.

has anyone else ever revisited older prince albums and re-discovered the excellence of his catalogue??

All the time. smile I rotate his music for something I haven't played in a little bit, or a song will pop into my head, or someone here will mention something and I'll give it a few listens to enjoy it together.
What?

Sign O'the Times a few days ago, the full album. I don't listen to the old albums a lot because I've heared them so many times. But like you said, when you do, they still sound great. And you remember why you became a fan in the first place.

I'm enjoying the song more than before. I used to think that the oral noises sounded disgusting, but I'm not bothered anymore. music

I have been for a long time now. In the summer I hate the sun and the heat so I would always take my trips to the grocery store late at night (around midnight) and I would take the longest, most scenic route there so I could listen to Come or some other obscure album I hadn't listened to in a while. It was like discovering it for the first time. In fact, I seem to like them better now! Really getting into him again... but the "old stuff", I'm not really into this new stuff.

After listening to nothing but unofficial material for years, I just recently revisited some of the post WB albums, and found myself enjoying The Rainbow Children all over again. Subject matter aside, I think it's one of his last great albums.

Currently going all the way back to how it all started. For You has always held a special place for me

Plus on Tidal (courtesy the 3 month free trial) everything sounds better in Hi-Fi... cool

Thizz

Sometimes I choose to avoid highways so I was driving an extremely long way from South Central to Venice Beach and this woman was making a lot of gestures toward me and singing along to When Doves Cry

Over the summer months I put onto my Sony Digital Music Player all album tracks, bsides, remixes and selected outtakes. I played all of these on random while in the gym and while cycling back and forth to work / gym. It was awesome listening to all tracks in this way. By doing this I was able to listen to each track out of context of the album they came from. This helped me to appreciate them much more. Also it was evident that from day one Prince does has had a consistent quality and overarching sound. I was amazed to find that from this exercise, I rediscovered tracks I'd forgotten about. Many came from 20Ten which I was never into but wow now i think it is awesome.

lol wink lol

I'm embarrassed to admit that I just got "hip" to itunes in the last month or so. I knew it was there, but never used it. Well...I've spent the last few weeks importing most of my music collection onto my computer; my plan was to stop the Prince collection at "Lovesexy"...to make a long story short, I ended up loading everything up to "The Gold Experience"...and ended up embarrassed again. I have posted several times about how Prince sucked after 1988, but there are some definite GEMS on those early-mid 90s albums. I was stunned to find myself enjoying tracks from Diamonds and Pearls, O)+>, Come and TGE (always loved NPG Exodus, but was reminded how much I loved it). Never again will I contribute negativity to that era...I'm still not going to rank them as classics, but Prince was, is, and always will be THE MAN.

Make it so, Number One...

Last month I revisited the NPG albums. Currently I'm getting reacquainted with Crystal Ball and Planet Earth.
