I'm listenng to this song again tonight after a long time of not hearing it--and it sounds as wonderful to me as the first time I heard it on the radio so many years ago--which made me go buy the Gold Experience album. Many great songs on that album...and that was the last one I bought for many years... I was out of touch regarding Prince for many years after that; but that album sounds as good as the day I bought it. Although I love The Dawn boot. Just have to say that after the I hate TGE thread.

with some re-arranging/re-structuring of the lyrics from i hate u to i love u (plus the removal of the sex scene), this would of been a massive hit. i think the "hate" aspect stopped it from crossing over into the mainstream a la tmbgitw.

I disagree.The "hate" aspect is what makes the song so intriguing.The song simply needed better promotion.

One of Prince's finest singles of the 90s.

Much love for this track. I remember fearing it for the first time in 1994, and was blown away .

The opening line of this song ("I never thought that you would be the one") was recylced a few years later on "Silly Game" from Rave.

Delicious Song. It has some parts (musically) that remindsw me of "Baby" off the For You album. Another delicious treat .

in 1994,I had a bootleg cassette tape that contained the songs that were supposedly going to be on TGE....but the song "I Hate U" was a poor recording from a Prince show.He had apparently played the studio version on the loud speakers before a show.Some guy in the audience can he heard saying "this sounds like "Joy In Repetition",right?"

This used to get some decent play on the r&b stations. Could swear I've seen a video of this on BET or one of the smaller video channels back in the day. The courtroom segment of this song was my favorite part, pretty novel all around.
