Would you rather see Prince collaborate with other legends or developing acts? Prince has always had a history of developing new and developing acts and his new deal struck with Kobalt in 2013 is a definitely an indication of that as the press release states
but at this point in his career wouldn't it be better to see him collaborate with other legendary music acts?
He's collaborated with George Clinton before - it would be nice to see that happen again
He's collaborated with Larry Graham . . and although Prince is perfectly capable of playing the bass guitar on his own it would be very nice see him collaborate with Bootsy Collins (I've noticed a thread on here about that in the past)
Now he's collaborating with Joshua Welton to produce his whole album . . and it feels like it's beneath him. Not to take anything away from the young producer but collaborating with the right person could really be a greatly expanding experience. When two creative minds come togehter fir a cikkaviratuib it opens up a lot of possibilities. Two great minds bouncing ideas around, plus Prince's musicianship talent helping to ensure those ideas are able to come to fruition. I believe something that keeps Prince from doing this is his ego
In a '01 issue of Time, Max Martin said that he wanted to work with Prince
With Max Martin's position in the music industry now . . why hasn't he made this happen? It would be amazing to see one of the most talented musicians in the world work with one of the most successful producers in the world. Prince recently worked with Judith Hill and this connection was established simply cause he saw an interview where she mentioned she wanted to work with him
Any chance of this happening?
this is my only source for the quote - http://prince.org/msg/5001/6414?pr
certainly we can assume if this was Max Martin's dream at one point it would definitely be a part of his ambition to make it happen.
Plus Prince is now letting that Joshua Welton guy produce his music, so why not go for the best producer in the game and just collaborate with him? It would be cool to see the greatest artist in music working with the most prolific producer in music?
this is the easiest route back to the top of the charts and with that being the set ground to build on imagine how much further he can go with it if he's truly inspired to make something great happen. I believe the guaranteed success is what stops Prince from doing it. For Prince to do it would definitely compromise his integrity . . which sucks, because that's a reflection of someone's ego stopping them from reaching their full potential. I wanna see it happen so it's easy for me to say he should put his ego aside but if I was in his position I wouldn't want to risk people saying that Max Martin revived my career. I want to see the classic Cheiron sound enter Paisley Park. To some of you this might be a "sell out move" . . but is it wrong for an artist to want commercial success? Putting his music on a platform that will allow his message to get to more people wouldn't be a bad thing at all
So basically . . my dream list of collaborators include
Max Martin
George Clinton
Bootsy Collins

I would like to see him collaborate with legends. These days, when he works with "developing acts",it's usually just a sexy female that he is attracted to That gets boring after awhile.

A mix of both. It's important for him to keep up with people of his skill group and all that jazz so he has 'competition' of a type but I think it's also important that he instils some of his genius into younger musicians and teaches them.

I've gotten that impression too . . . didn't wanna say that though, assuming he's too old for these rapper chicks on this new album

It would be cool to have him collaborate with legendary performers, backed by up and coming producers. The executive producer could be a middle-ground guy like Pharrell. Just for an EP. Light work for everyone involved, with the most pressure being on the exec.

I agree! He doesn't need to collaborate with anyone. He just has to get in the studio and make some great music again. Get out the guitar and play it, damn it. And, get the horns and bass going again. Enough of all this Mr. Nelson nonsense.

Totally agree. | |

I'm still waiting for that Anita Baker album. . Maybe if she gets a face/boob lift and gets an afro it might happen.

He should work with kickass current acts if he wants to release a great album again. The Weeknd, Beyoncé, Miguel, Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Pharrell, Janelle Monae, etc[Edited 10/1/15 11:33am]

I don't give a fuck who he works with. Young, old, male, female, Josh, Wendy, Larry, Lisa, 3rdEyeGirl or the Buena Vista Social Club or all alone at the piano... All I want from him is to write good songs.

It would be cool to see him put together a supergroup featuring some legendary artists....big names like Herbie Hancock,Patrice Rushen...maybe Sheila E. on drums..... and then get out there and play some intimate, jazzy shows! No more of this ThirdEyeGirl bullshit.

I don't believe you have a grasp of the role of an Executive Producer - in most cases that's the person heading the project in financial terms or the person in charge of personel. There's really no need for him to have one outside of himself. If he's going to work with producers, I'd rather see him work with established producers than up-in-coming producers who really aren't on Prince's level musically. The difference is up-in-coming producers are just happy to be in the room with him and pinching themselves. An established producer *cough* Max Martin *cough* is going to bring professionalism into the mix (so to speak) and a track record of excellence
What's your issue with the Third Eye Girl band?

I just don't think they're very good.Prince is the type of artist who could have the most amazing, most impressive band in the world! There are so many legendary, truly talented artists who would love to work with Prince.

Legends and other artists closer to his age! I'd like to see him embrace Grohl and Cornell for instance.

June 2015 On Tuesday, Mitchell’s attorney, Rebecca J. Thyne, filed a request to retain the 71-year-old’s friend Leslie Morris to facilitate the singer’s care. Thyne interviewed Mitchell, Morris, Morris’ attorneys, and Mitchell’s friends and caregivers during her investigation. Mitchell noted her care was great and that she was happy with Morris’ help. The documents also note more information about Mitchell’s health. Thyne met with Mitchell on June 26, where she was feeding herself. “It was clear that she was happy to be home and that she has made remarkable progress,” Thyne writes. “She has physical therapy each day and is expected to make a full recovery.” Morris was appointed Mitchell’s temporary conservator in May. Mitchell was hospitalized in March after being found unconscious in her home. Morris wrote on Mitchell’s official website two days after Thyne’s visit and wrote Mitchell was “speaking well” and “getting better each day” after suffering an aneurysm. Joni Mitchell is not in a...l website . and I think since Prince has a connection to her, and was moved to tears over the earlier news, music and art being such a healer. It would be really interesting to see what kind of art and message these two could translate

I would love it if Prince collaborated with Andre Cymone on a new song. I'm not sure if you'd class Andre Cymone as a legend but I think it would do Prince good to have someone of his own age and with a similar background to himself.

I would like to see him collaborate with those that he made his best songs and music with, like The Revolution, The Time, and others from the Minneapolis sound era. Prince always did things his way, and didn't try to conform to others and what they were doing, and I don't think he should now. I don't get him, he alienates those that he made the best music with and seems to hold a grudge, not wanting to work with them again, but is now willing to work with those half his age, most that know nothing about making good music, and seems to be trying to conform to their way of doing things. Even if he doesn't want to work with those that he used to work with, for whatever reason, there are still real musicians and entertainers from the era of music he came from that he could make real music with, good music! I remember a time when he didn't even want to work with "Michael Jackson" of all people, yet he's now willing to work with anyone that comes along, with not a half ounce of talent that Michael had! Just imagine what he could have done with someone like Michael Jackson! I just don't get him at all these days.

Either way is fine with me. The Rita Ora and Curly Fryz collabo was great and my two favorites on the new CD. It brings a new curent vibe to his music which I like. Legends are fine also but the newer younger collabo's I think will have a fresher sound like the two on the new album. If he chooses to do neither thats fine also. I will buy whatever he chooses to release. The one I would love to see him do would be with Pharrell. That would be awesome!!

He has worked with legends and current acts and it's never been the creativity bonanza everyone hoped for because he has such a strong musical personality that either he's way up front or he's like a session player in the background.
He works best with people he can instruct and direct like a bandleader or "teacher". There's lots of people that need to be in charge and just don't gain much from collaborating with legendary talent.
