Still waiting for my Cd. Is the transition on the cd between this and x's face better? Sounds like an awful editing job on the stream version, I'm putting it down to no gap less playback on tidal. Anyhow it's an awesome song. | |

from EW interview: “HARDROCKLOVER” would make any Sunday-school teacher blush, and they sometimes even scandalize the man who made them: After one particularly spicy lyric booms from the speakers, Prince buries his face in his hands and then jumps up and runs from the room. (“I forgot about that part,” he murmurs sheepishly when he returns.)
He shouldn't be bashful, that's his artwork. I wonder which particular spicy lyric it is Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine..Purple music does the same 2 my brain

i hadn't even noticed that yet. and it's my favorite song on the album The song has of course been discussed endlessly already, but together with June, it's the highlight of the album. | |

Yeah great track, I really liked it when it first came out and was worried I might have gotten tired of it by now, but I had a listen now and it's still really cool. I can understand why there might be some elements of it that people find corny but I don't feel like that personally. Obvious highlight of the album imo. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

To me it's his new "darling nikki". Not filthy, but you still get that grimy, dirty, need a bath afterwards feel to it. The first time I heard it, I was like... yea, this is his attempt at a new Darling Nikki. | |

Yes this along with hugs and kisses are my favarite tracks. Im hoping that the next album will be more along the line of hardrocklover . Hardrocklover was only recorded recently so i live in hope! |

This is my favorite song on HnR. It flows really well, and this is one everyone can sing along to. I can't wait to hear this played live. This song rocks, and Prince again does his thing with the guitar solos. POSITIVITY!!!

Another great track, simple structure but features great guitar, vocal and bass work from Prince. The story style of the lyrics doesn't really build in to anything special like Joy in Repetition, but it's good to hear a return to that spoken style. His delivery of a few lines is really fresh and diferent from what we've heard before, the way he says "about to hear a woman just scream" the second or so time he sounds like he's about to loose it vocally, like he's tripping up on himself and his voice is in this weird register between scream and talk.
The ending meldoy of "she likes to party hard, she's a hard rock lover" is nice and stands in contrast to the mostly unmelodic previous sections, but it doesn't really last long enough. Likewise, the first melody on the guitar when he hits the first chorus is nice, but then he quickly abandons it to improvise over the next choruses so you lose that hook element. It also feels like it is missing a really wild guitar solo, and that if it was performed live it could be epic.
His voice when he screams at the climax is amazing and clear and could be from any time in his career. This plus the Breakdown show me that he has taken amazing care of his voice and can still push it to do crazy things when he wants. | |
