That's just one of his absolutely greatest songs. And the lyrics... Where is that imagination? Even more than the music, interesting lyrics seem to be COMPLETELY gone... Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

I can't get enough of this song.

Completely disagree, but that's okay. The lyric is much clearer in the new version (2009). Listen to that one and see if you still feel that you have the lyrics correct. It wasn't until I heard the '09 version that I had the line confirmed. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

The version I have is pretty clear, and you can easily word the lyrics with him

Really, is there somewhere a clear version?

It's certainly possible, but I always thought he was singing about "mass produced cacophony" in the original. I just took the new version to be a confirmation of the lyrics in the original. I certainly could be wrong.
SPEAK ENGLISH, PRINCE!! [Edited 11/5/15 7:38am] Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

'Lake' doesn't make any sense. He's obviously trying to impress her and bed her with his star status. She asks him what's the biggest movie (flick) you've ever been in. That makes much more sense given the subject matter. "I like to watch."

He asks her how much she's had to drink, and she replies with "what's the biggest lake you've ever been in", ie "whatever the biggest lake you've been in, that's roughly how much I've had to drink". Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

GIRL O' MY DREAMS Here we go, 2 .. 1, 2, 3!
While specific recording dates for the initial version of the song are not known, the song was originally recorded in 1982 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA. The track was re-recorded on 18 June, 1986 at the Crosstown Circle Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA The track was given to T.C. Ellis, who had appeared in the Graffiti Bridge movie, when he and Levi Seacer, Jr. were working on his album True Confessions in 1990-1, and the track was re-recorded without Prince's input for use on the album. -PrinceVault

Just checked to see if the old Crystal Ball website was still up, and it turns out it is. Here are the lyrics listed on the page for Movie Star:
"Body oil? Check! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

An Honest Man -Under the Cherry Moon instrumental 1. Under the Cherry Moon Outro - Piano Instrumental [Intro Voice over]
An Honest Man I want 2 be an honest man With U I know I can stand, stand
Initial tracking took place on 30 November, 1985 (on the same day as Mountains) at the Washington Avenue Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA. It is thought that the a capella version was created around the same time, and it may have been intended as a brief opening track for the Parade album, in the same vein as For You on the For You album. The Crystal Ball liner notes state that the song is "inspired by Kristin Scott Thomas' character Mary Sharon in Under The Cherry Moon."

It's a beautiful film, that has a lot of potential. Some adjustments to the screenplay, and an assist from a more experienced director, could have saved it from being a punchline (though I still maintain that it isn't as bad as many make it out to be). Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

All My Dreams is an unreleased track recorded on 28 April, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (four days after Holly Rock, the same day as Kiss). It was included as the ninth and final track on a 1 May, 1985 configuration of Parade, but was removed before the album's release. The track was later included as the nineteenth and final track on a 3 June, 1986 configuration of the album Dream Factory, and kept as the eighteenth and final track on the 18 July, 1986 configuration. When Prince decided not to proceed with the album after disbanding the Revolution, and concentrated instead on Camille and Crystal Ball (both of which were also aborted), he decided not to include this song. The track was mentioned as a possible track for the 1998/1999 album of Revolution-era tracks, Roadhouse Garden, but this remains unreleased. Artwork has been posted online for an NPG Music Club album titled In All My Dreams, which likely includes this track, but nothing else is known about this album. A portion of a distorted spoken section of this song was later reused in Acknowledge Me. -PrinceVault
