When Stars Collide v Mr Nelson

"When Stars Collide" is so much a mo' better "remix" (of "What I Feels Like" — not to mention the brilliant thumping get down and dirty on the dance floor "Time Remix" of "Time"), than "Mr Nelson" is of "Clouds," it's not even funny. Maybe there's an even better "Clouds" remix yet to come.(?)

I miss the days of the maxi-single remixes (á la Gett Off, Cream, Let It Go).

I don't think of WSC as a remix of WIFL. Though to be honest, I've only listened to Superconductor a handful of times and I'd forgotten they shared a phrase until I looked it up in Princevault as a result of reading your post. Princevault says states that beyond both songs having the "this is what it feels like" line in them, they don't have anything in common. Pvault also states that in all likelihood, WIFL was probably recorded during the same PP recording sessions for Superconductor. So maybe you're onto something there.

.

I wasn't aware there was a "Time Remix". Can you tell me more about it?

.

"Mr. Nelson" is one of my favorite tracks on HnR, and I do think it belongs in the pantheon of Prince's maxi-single remixes from the eighties and nineties for being its own unique listening experience apart from "Clouds". As a matter of fact, the first time I listened to this song, I was just taking in the sound, doing other things around the house, and I didn't realize it was one of the HnR remixes I'd read about. I didn't realize it was a remix until the third or fourth time I listened to it actually, it's sound is just so different.

.

I've been missing the classic remixes as well. When Prince would take a song and let us hear it in it's full expression, or add some musical elements that would change up the vibe of the whole song. He makes such a production of his remixes. I was never quite feeling it when he'd bring in others to remix his songs. It adulterates the whole effect. I prefer only he tinkers with his music--no one else!
