Fandom: Do you believe in Prince or not?

Prince is basically the same thing to me now that he was in 1984. I get why people fall off the purple bandwagon, I understand being a frustrated Prince fan, I get it. That said, this article/review really sums up my feelings on the new album and where/what Prince is now. Check it out and say what you think:

I believe in Prince in that I think he'll keep giving us the occasional stellar classic Prince while he continues to experiment and play. We're all just along for the ride.

Good article, btw.

I love Prince like I gave birth to him but I don't really get caught up in so called fandom issues like getting too frustrated over what he does or doesn't do.

Sometimes there's so much silly carrying on, clowning and drama in here that a crisis hotline is needed. lol

Either I like something or I don't but I understand that my opinion is not holy writ and people are allowed to like something that I may not care for without me questioning their sanity or repeating my opinion countless times for attention's sake.

I believe in Prince to the extent that I'm always confident that he will do something I love sooner rather than later. biggrin

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I agree...I do believe...

The man put out a record I don't really care for. It's not the first time. I've been a fan for 30 years and I have nothing to complain about. The man's music has given me so much pleasure and he owes me nothing. Maybe hitnrun will grow on me (I suspect it will), maybe not. Either way it doesn't detract from my fondness for the man.

No one here doesn't believe in Prince, no matter what they say.

I don't "believe in Prince." I just enjoy the hell out of his music, which adds a lot to my life.

Do I believe in Prince?

After being a serious fan for some 18yrs now, I've reached the point where I don't think Prince can surprise me anymore, musically. And I miss that. I don't blame Prince for that. It's just an inevitability of following an artist for so long. I also realise that being in my early/mid 30s now, music itself means something different to me than it did when I was in my teens and twenties. My views on life and the world have also changed overt this period of time, and I think they are now very far removed from Prince's views on the world.

On Prince's side of things, I also think he has reached the point where his best years are behind him. And I think he knows that too. But am I still a fan? Absolutely! Art Official Age was a great album. Plectrum was enjoyable. Hitnrun I'm a bit disappointed with as an album, but there are some moments in there that still tingle the purple eardrums of mine.

I suspect from here on in I'll continue the slow disassociation. Other interests in my life have already overtaken where Prince and his music once were. But I'm sure I'll always be a fan even if I find myself increasingly losing the interest to follow what's happening in the Princeworld on a daily basis.

Im just waiting for one more flawless album. Until then I will praise his good stuff, slate is bad stuff and be indifferent to all the stuff inbetween. So business as usual. In the meantime, there is so much good music out there, there really is no reason to get too hung up on a Prince-only diet. Belief doesnt come into the equation.

Yes, he's shat upon the world another stinkeroo of an album in a long line of stinkeroos, when I believe he's capable of doing better as both a musician & a writer. I believe he's capable of doing more as a live performer than lazy sampler sets & "showcasing" lame background vocalists when people pay north of $200 to see him perform.

The writer of this "article" has their head up their ass. An example: "On first listen the first four tracks seem so brazenly commercial that they wouldn’t be out of place on a Rita Ora album." The average music listener would read that, see Rita Ora & wonder "Who the hell is that?" If the author is trying to gush over the album's commercial appeal, surely they could have chosen a more relevant example.

I do wish Prince believed in himself, though. Not to the point where he is now & only surrounds himself with lap dogs & yes men & vastly inferior side musicians who don't challenge him creatively. Or if the worst is true & these people are challenging him, it's quite sad.

I believe in Prince, and coffee. They both may not always be as good as you wish they were, but as soon as you are finished you crave for another cup. It's a controlled dependency for me, in both cases.

Do I believe in Prince?

I've been about 10 feet away from him (he's been on stage, I've been in the crowd). I'm pretty sure he's real.

Yes, I believe in Prince. I don't think he's imaginary. I believe in him much more than I believe in Santa Clause. wink

Oh, also, I think he will sometimes release music that I enjoy.
