Duran Duran, who I didn't even know was still together, came out with a new album the same week as HitNRun. They appeared on multiple TV shows. I only even knew they had an album because my wife had Jimmy Fallon, which is the entire point of making the appearnces. Their album debuted at #10.

If Prince is creating music because he wants people to listen to it, he needs to put some effort into actually promoting the music.

Errr.... so a world tour for an album isnt promotion? He promoted pretty much every WB album with a tour AND played songs from the new album. Only since his "independence" has he faltered on the promotional front.

I enjoyed this song more than the whole HitNRun album . . it would be nice if his next project was in the vain of this song. In one interview he said he looks for songs to go with other songs so that hopefully this is a song he's building a project around

I have never gotten the sense that Prince liked the promotion game, tv interviews, award shows, etc. - unless it was "performing live". I agree that since he has become an "unrestricted free- agent", he has generally done far less promotion - a result of him not being contractually obligated to do so and him just not wanting to do it. I always find it puzzling that people get mad that he doesn't promote his own music. If he doesn't want to, what's the big deal? He is still getting paid and we are still getting music. Some people seem to care a whole lot more about Prince "charting" than he does.

I don't understand your reasoning regarding the album name or your ThirdEyeGirl reference; why that means he really cares about charting. I am sure he wants people to buy the album, but maybe the full promotion push is not worth the expenditure, especially not being backed by a major label. Also, maybe he decided that being independent is worth losing some of the things being backed by a major label provides, promotion for example. And that epecially makes since if he doesn't like doing promotion and/or never cared for doing it. He always seemed to be way more about music output than complimentary aspects like promotion and website, etc.

is actually a marketing genius! He knows what he has to do & promotes albums that he know will sell or become profitable for him as an independent artist. He picks and chooses how he wants to market his product @ the moment & when.

They will tell their kids and their kids will tell their friends, then they will all skip school to watch Judith Hill and Prince perform the brilliant Million Dollar Show. Its like when he popped on to the set of the view and sales for Lotusflow3r skyrocketed at Target. Anything to get them to Target. You know those housewives can barely boot up their Gateway computers and dial into the internet let alone some sophisticated groundbreaking program like Tidal. Brilliance.

exactly,, take the artists that are on Empire, huge show, huge folowing ,, weekly viewing yet i dont see that many burning up the charts.. There is littel ROI in huge outlay of promotional expenditures these days..For some , yes, Adele, taylor other than those, i am scratching my head
