Dude won a Webby Award in 2006 so yeah - give him at least a decade to see the value of digital music and get his catalog in order. Seems fair. At least for someone who believes time is a trick.
If it ain't done already...why waste they time. It obviously isn't a priority or important to him if it isn't already done. And it's his vault...so ultimately, his opinion is the only that matters.
I really hope people don't go rifling thru my manuscripts after I die and go around publishing them.
Stephen King addressed this issue in his latest book. A writer had written a seminal work...what was seen as a three part series. Unknown to the general public was 2-3 additions to the percieved trilogy...intentionaly unpublished. The author was robbed and killed over them by an obsessed fan who hid them in a treasure chest while he served his time for a rape he committed. When he got out, he discover his stolen treasure was stolen from him. Ultimately the work was left unpublished, per the authors apparent desire. [Edited 9/21/15 12:04pm]
It is possible that the vault hasn't been digitized yet. Maybe Josh or someone is curating it now. It could take time. Should we be patient?
If Josh is curating them I shudder to think what he'll do to them... having vault material that he has let his Early Learning Centre 303 loose on would be worse than having no vault material ever.
the people who operated the Lotusflower site stated that they had gone through a lot of vault material and had compiled about 10 discs worth of material for the
website (which then, as we all know, never came to anything).
so i'm sure a lot of stuff from the vault is already digitised, if not the bulk of it.

That is true; I remember the quote.
I think Prince had toyed with the idea of releasing the Vault for a long time, and will eventually start doing it.
You know, Prince is aggravating because he keeps releasing lesser new art while storing the good stuff.
When he's dead, or retired, or finally opens the Vault, it will all be cool because we will have an artist who kept going forward AND all this unreleased stuff. In the end it will all be good.

I get what you're saying, but speak for yourself. I'm 40 y/o now and I want the stuff while I'm still young enough to care.
Our definition of "the vault" might be very different from Prince's definition. For example, Us: unreleased 80s material. Prince: anything on his hard drive from the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s.
Including his version of Careless Whisper. [Edited 9/22/15 1:02am]

Prince has done a cover of Careless Whisper or were you joking?

I wouldn't trust what those numbnuts said. They didn't seem to be that knowledgable; it's entirely possible most of that promised material were things we already have.

i thought of that too. maybe the videos they put up on lotusflower was all 'vault material' to them, who knows. all we know is that once again, someone mentioned the vault and we got nothing

It's knowledgeable.
Surprising error, from someone who's so quick to point out faults in other posts...
i know u people r not joking about robbing the vault...very cruel
Yes. We are definitely not joking. Who could joke about something as serious as this?
Well, actually I'm really serious - I just don't have the criminal know-how.
I've said this before, but Prince is like a demented grandpa, releasing sub-par material under the delusion that he's still making great music. While the really great music is falling apart in the vault.
Given the choice between two options: from now on you can only listen to Prince's WB material - released and vault, OR you can only listen to post WB-releases and newly created Prince music... I know what I'd choose.
