Maybe I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed most of the songs on Musicology. It defined 2004 to me and also one of the first P albums I got into, as I became a fan that year. Musicology, Life O' The Party, What Do U Want Me 2 Do and Call My Name are classic jazz/funk/soul/pop songs. It's the kind of album Adele the singer would have made. Really. biggrin

yeah, the album cover was one of the worst ever

But "What Do U Want Me 2 Do — Girl?" really made that album a keeper regardless of everything else.

PE was "criminally underrated"

Musicology is a lot better than I initially gave it credit for. I would rate it higher than 3121, 20Ten, Plectrum and HitNRun but below AOA and the criminally underrated Planet Earth.

A Million Days is wonderfully epic and reminds me of the rock-ballads he was doing on The Gold Experience (like a hybrid of Dolphin and Shhhh). I've always loved the Stevie Wonder-esque vibe of What Do U Want 2 Do.... infact, the one-two-three punch of WDUWM2D-The Marrying Kind-If I Was The Man In Ur Life is probably one of the strongest run of tracks on any Prince album from the 00's.

Life O The Party is an underrated funk jam. Some cool horns and an awesome drum pattern. It's far grittier than a song like Feel Good Feel Better for example.

I actually probably listen to Musicology more than any of his other albums from 2000-2015, even though it isn't my favourite. It holds up very well to repeated listens.

NewPowerSoul was baddass.

The "Come On" maxi single was dope as hell and saved the whole album from being a prelude to HITnRUN.

  1. "Come On"

Since when was Musicology disliked by fans? It isnt NewPowerSoul or HitnRun

Compared to those two bombs it's a classic! It certainly isn't bad (like those two) but I would never think to play it. Actually I thought that way shortly after it came out. I only listened to the songs that he was playing on the tour to get familiarized with them.

"Kiss" mania aside, Parade was clearly one of Prince's tightest albums; it flowed like no other, and the collaborations with his pops made it a real gem.

It's hard not to cry when you really listen to "Sometimes It Snows in April."

ITs a really boring album to me. I like Cinnamon Girl but thats about it. The songs don't seem to mesh together as am album either. It seems like he just pulled out a bunch of random songs and stuck them together and called it an album. 3121 and Planet Earth have that same effect also where the songs are just all over the place and not cohesive. The Rainbow Children was so strong though I guess whatever follows it will be hard to meet expectations. Its kind of like ATWIAD and Parade after Purple Rain. There are a few good songs but the albums just don't quite meet the previous as an "album". At least for me that is. He seems to be getting back on track to me though with AOA and HNR. Those actually feel like actual concept albums and I like those quite a bit. I hope he continues with that direction as far as making an "album" and not just getting one of each type of genre song on an album

You changed your mind again. Nothing new then.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...
