Have you ever considered the possibility that Prince had "lost it" as the single greatest musical force on the planet?

And if not, how does HitNRun and this supposed need for Josh changed your answer to that question?

What makes you think he "needs" Josh? Did he "need" Larry Graham? Kirky J? Tony M? Does he need Hannah? Did he "need" Sheila? or Wendy & Lisa? He's always made good music without needing anyone. Wanting to work with a band or other influences in never the same as needing them.

Change it one more time..

If you stop to notice the word I used before the word "need", you might see how off base you are. Try again. All those questions are misguided and meaningless as posed to me.

First of all, Prince is not the single greatest musical force on the planet. And second of all, please calm down.

First, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it as much as I am entitled to mine. Second, you do not have the authority or the relevance to give me any kind of instructions or directives so all that means nothing. I give nor accept any disrespectful attacks here.

Personally, I have always believed Prince never needed anyone. The relevance of Wendy and Lisa is still the biggest common fallacy among those who think they have an holistic knowledge of the Prince story in my humble opinion. His artistic independence is the primary aspect of his genius that made me a devoted and unwaivering fan since 1978. My other posts here verify my position of the autonomy of Prince. These last few releases have causes concerned among fans like myself. "Produced, Composed, Arranged, and Performed by Prince" is the tag line that made him uniquely incredible and singularly astounding to us almost 40 years ago. Today, that is being disrupted. My original question is intended as a barometer of this sentiment.

If theyre misguided and meaningless as possed to you then lets just say theyre addressed to the "supposed" person youre implicating in your OP. Can't be all that meaningless if you brought it up right?

I'd insert "one of" before "the single greatest" and then change "possibility" to "certainty." And my answer would be "Yes, frequently!"

He doesn't "need" Josh, it's something he's trying.

You should try something sometime.

Jesus Christ, you sure are impressed with yourself.

In essence, you bought the myth hook, line and sinker and it hurts your supposedly deep thinking self that that may not be true.

There may have been a time when Prince was the greatest, but that ended a long time ago. Josh's contributions are just the latest in a long line of fruitful collaborations. You can chose to deny that if you like, but it puts a dent in your self image as rational, deep-thinking fan.

I toured Paisley Park two weeks ago. Sat in the soundbooth and listened to Josh and the band give just a glimpse into Prince's creative process and Josh's role in it. If anything, I am even more in awe of how Prince hears/sees the world and translates it to sound.

-

On a practical level, I think Josh is a contributer to Prince's sound in much the same way that past band members have been. I mean, Emancipation was basically "produced" by Kirky J, but it just wasn't listed as such.

"New Power slide...."

Reading comprehension is not the responsibility of the original poster. You came to my question and read it incorrectly. Thus your responses are irrelevant to the question. It is just common sense - not a rule of my making. Subsequently, it is not worth my time or effort to debate. I leave you to make your own choices regarding yours.

Honestly, I have never really considered Prince lost his edge, that magic, for any length of time because frankly, his music will not let me forget or ignore how unbelievably talented he is. His skills as a songwriter are absolutely astounding to me. After 30 years he still surprises me. I'm more impressed with him now than I was in the 80's, and back then I KNEW good and well he was a genius. Prince was and still is THE single greatest musical force on the planet. That is not an exaggeration. Consider it a historical fact. "It ain't braggin' if it's true." Not even speaking as a fan here, but as an objective observer of his work over these many years. Trust me--he never lost it. I don't need to be a musician to see that Prince is scary good at his craft. Unreal what that man can do with music....

I had some hope with Gold Experience. For me it was as good as if not better than Purple Rain. I think his creativie genius is still there but just not as strong as it was when he was younger. But I still respect and appreciate him. Once in a while I have this dream that he is going to release something soon that will just blow everyone away and make people agree with me that he is still truly a genius. But with each release, my dream seems farther and farther away from becoming reality.

That's certainly debatable. But if you think he's lost "it" 20 years ago, why are you still a fan 20 years later? Or maybe you just like hanging out with pissy Prince fans in a Prince forum? hmmm
