It's not if you're using the HD streaming with Tidal, that's CD quality.

WHo cares when you can only hear it through Tidal - the inconvenience and control is stupefying. I guarantee the average person can not tell the difference - if there is one - in sound quality.

For sure. I agree with you. I was solely talking about the claim of "better quality". Bear in mind that a lossless DRM-free version available to purchase digitally also is yours to keep forever for a one time fee and is also CD quality.

But can you tell a difference? And even if you can, is it worth it? Look at how much you have to pay to sign up each month and then to get files as opposed to buying a CD once.

True. But you're getting access to millions of songs throug Tidal and other streaming services, not just one CD. To each their own, and I'm not trying to argue. I love buying CDs of my favorite artists AND streaming to listen to all the stuff I can't buy for budget and sanity reasons.

There is access to millions of songs and artists in over a hundred ways for almost nothing if not free. It is like paying for the radio. Those of us old enough to remember when the radio and TV were free, its a hard sell. Youngsters raised on technology - and the "not so" youngsters who want to seem hip - may find some more value in it. Hey, someone has to be ripped off in the tech business - might as well be the slaves of it. The huge gaping holes in this model is verified by Tidal making its first allowance for downloading files AND actually selling CDs - there is a giant demographic that you miss with this leasing system of music when people want ot own it.

No I personally can't tell the difference. Again I agree with you, I prefer to have a copy of the music that I personally own and that I can listen to at any time in either CD or digital format (and I tend to prefer the convienience of a digital download nowadays), rather than just "renting" my music for a monthly fee as is the case with streaming services (my family does have a Spotify account but I use it only as a supplement to buying releases, not a replacement.) My inital post was simply a refuting of the idea that a CD release is "better quality" than the Tidal stream, given that you can stream music from Tidal in lossless quality. It was not a comparison of the myriad differences between streaming and purchasing a CD, I was referring to that one aspect alone.

Target has it for $13.99, I think the Electric Fetus in Mpls has it too.

It was not at either of my local Target stores, but I just picked it up at Walmart for $11.88 (cheapest price I'm seeing listed here on the Org). No real "promotional" signage or anything at Walmart - it was just there in the New section.

I will always buy the physical disc when it comes to Prince. I like to have a copy that way I can rip it as many times as I want and not have to worry about losing a digital download. I'm a collector as well so it comes with the territory.

Have fun picking up your Prince album at the store, that's something that could never get old to me.

The sound quality on tidal is most excellent though. It sounds better than other streaming services I have listened to. If I was inclined to rent my music I'd consider Tidal.

I'm also old enough to remember radio back when it was the shit. The thing with streaming services is you can choose exactly what to listen to. For only $10 a month. That's pretty damn good.

But radio was free and you could tape entire albums off of it.
