Tidal hifi sound quality Can anyone comment on the quality of Prince's catalog on Tidal in hifi? Particularly the npgmc era albums that we only got in MP3 or crummy DRM WMV formats, and Sign O The Times, by far his most badly needed remaster? Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

The NPGMC songs sound much better to me. I'm noticing things I've never heard before. His classic albums that desperately need remastering are a bit of a shitshow. At times some songs are much louder than others on the same album. As far as I can tell, it's because Tidal is pulling single mixes of some songs and putting them in place of the album mixes. I could be wrong. In addition to the change in loudness, the single mix thing sucks because it ruins the flow of albums. For example, Girls & Boys fades at the end instead of going right into Life Can Be So Nice. It completely wrecks one of my favorite Prince moments. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

The NPGMC stuff sounds a lot better. I've just played The Cross off my iTunes back to back with the Tidal version and the Tidal one sounds a bit louder and better to me.

As much as I dislike the concept of streaming (renting) music, I love the Tidal mixes for all of the older albums. Much improved versions with my headphones.

But isn't that done for all the freaks who make a better track list. What?

The NPGMC albums are indeed a great improvement on the downloads we had to make do with back then. I am listening to those albums more than HnR at the moment. U been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took.
