Mr. Nelson

I've been hearing a lot of reviews and comments (both positive and negative) on the different tracks of the HnR album (I'm a big fan biggrin)

But I haven't been hearing a lot of feedback on what I believe to be one of the most solid tracks on there: Mr. Nelson.

I love the way it starts with a slow and groovy beat, then BAM! Just fades out psychedelically (time...time...time...time) while maintaining that agressive and building beat in the background, like a heartbeat. And those low, throbbing synthesizers in the back! With some beautiful, crystal clear guitar to top everything off.

I love everything about this song EXCEPT the fact that it's only 2:27 long! I would've loved to hear this be a 5 minute track smile

Thoughts?

Personally, I like the 1-800-NEW-FUNK advertisement on Rave better.

I really like it too. It's not really a remix of clouds, if it was purely an instrumental I think it would be appreciated more.

The guitar solo is really nice.

In fact the whole album has some great guitar work on it.

I dismissed it way too early. After a few more listens I am on board.

Sorry to disagree, but i think mr. nelson is really embarassing and the worst song he put out since the rave-album. Except for the guitar i could do that myself in five minutes. Cheesy can be good too, but this is just plain awful.

I think it's a pointless addition to the album. It doesn't need to exist.

actually i feel a lot of people are analyizing it half way... at least with this album. i'm not saying this album is good, i feel it's not a good album and it's incomplete. however what i will say is, aoa and hitnrun in my opinion has some of the best Prince BEATS in years... i just feel he doesn't know how to put the lyrics together especially with the edm/dubstep beats. u can see it's not really his fortay, kind of like how rapping wasn't.

but the beats are real modern and great.

I really like Clouds but this is just a pointless boring remix. It's like some wannabe dramatic circus music. I keep picturing a woman fire eating on a lion.
.
It would be like putting one of the Gett Off remixes on the Symbol album. Surely he had other songs knocking round to use. There was talk of a new version of If I Could Get Your Attention - that would have been more interesting.

Clouds is great. I was hoping we'd somehow get an extended mix with more verses or something. Not this remix.

It sounds like flotsam and jetsom left on the cutting room floor after "AOA". A 5-year-old could have put this song together.

There's some nice (accoustic?) guitar in the first part too, subtle in the mix. I think I'd prefer the track without the vocal samples but they don't offend me.

RIP sad

As a track on Phase One's purposedly-ad hoc/no ceremony/no Album with a capital A/Mix Tape that feels like a Blast From The Present 1.0, this ain't the greatest but it's fun as a little ear candy, I'm sure I'd be pleased to discover it on BFTP vol. xx.

It's really one of the most terrible things he's ever put his name to. Like the worst kind of prog-rock-dance nonsense I've ever heard. New age plus garb-age. No structure, terrible sounds and nothing going on conceptually.

Or should I tell you how I really feel? wink

I lurk a LOT more than I post, and I find myself agreeing with most of your opinions on P and his music in general

I can't explain why, but I really like this frenetic segue. It sets up "1000 X'S & 0'S" quite well.
