The biggest difference is the quality. In 1986 and 1993, Prince had a massive amount of fresh and high quality music. WB let Prince release a double album with SotT (although not a triple). Was there away for WB to release a double album in 1993/1994 that would've satisfied Prince? The recent sagging in output isn't about how much a record company would let him release. The issue is quality, not about quantity. He's released 3 pretty short albums in the past 4 years, not an overkill imo.

Yes, but in the 80's he had multiple releases every year . . . just as side projects. The Time, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Sheila E., Madhouse, etc. All vying for Prince's attention -- it's a miracle that the proper Prince albums were so good!

.

I'm sure WB saw a waning in quality in side projects in the 90s (Carmen Electra, for example) which is why they slowed to a crawl right around that time.

.

These days, his side projects aren't really "side", other than perhaps Judith Hill and Andy Allo. 3EG is front and center, moreso than even NPG.

Good point regarding the side projects.

Do we know what Prince actually had on the table to Warner Brothers in 1993 when they refused to release at the pace he wanted and then he protested with the name change. The name change was June 7, 1993. The only things that I know of were the Come album (an early configuration it turns out) and Mavis Staples, The Voice. That's only two albums, one of which is a side project. This hardly seems like overkill. And WB was working on the Hits/B-Sides.

I did not "attack" u. As someone who opened this post and bothered to read it, I feel legitimate to express my concern about the fact that I found the language confusing. Now it's fine if others got your point, but I didn't and I wish I had for if I had I could have commented the content instead of the form. But OK, nevermind + peace hug

right...

Please.
