The Chocolate Invasion on Tidal - new tracklisting

My Medallion has been added, The Dance has been removed.

Sexmesexmenot now track 8 instead of 5.

And, as far as I can tell, Gamillah is now Gamilla.

Perfect.

Now a damned "15 years later" factory pressed CD of this and "Slaughterhouse" would be nice.

Please take note, P.

It was originally there when the album was supposed to be on the TCI 7-CD boxset, then the tracklist got slightly altered and MM replaced by The Dance.

What is fascinating is that the Tidal version is, in fact, the original tracklist i.e. the album as originally configured (tracks order also slightly differs).

Honestly I suspect this is a mistake: the Prince employee who was in charge of unearthing the master just took the wrong tape and no one noticed. Let's see if it stays as such for long.

Still, it's really fascinating: for the first time an early configuration of an album is officially made available.

What was unknown so far is if every version of the other tracks was exactly as on the final version or if some may have been there is a slightly different version. I don't have Tidal (and I can't because it's not available in India) but it'd be great if someone could check.

Hell, I hope someone rips the whole thing anyway nod

Is he now giving Eric Burdon credit for the song?

My Medaillon? I think it was released only for premium members back then.

Of course not. And there's honestly no reason for him to. This is an exaggerated similarity, and I'm annoyed by the fact that Princevault (for example) treats it as something deserving a credit for Burdon.

But, then, I still think that the Blurred Lines decision was BS too.

Here's a question about "ripping" (more of a rhetorical one, mods): if you paid for TCI, Slaughterhouse, and CNOTE on the Musicology store . . . that were HEAVILY DRM'd and no longer work . . . do you now -- legally -- have a right to own an HD version from Tidal? confused

Legally... nope.

Morally... well, that's worth debating.

Does Prince have a moral obligation? I'd say so. I bought (not rented) something from him, and he failed to make it permanently usable. But, you know...

I understand that I bought WMA files and these are lossless. That would be like me buying a cassette and then later feeling entitled to CD.

Ideally I'd love to *buy* a CD, but really I'd be happy with portable lossy versions (what I thought I was getting through the Musicology store).

Well, maybe--but that's what they chose to provide. It's not like they couldn't have sold .wav (though I wouldn't have been able to download them in less than a day at the rates I had back then), and when they have sold .wav recently (on 3rdeyetunes) it's been comparable in price. So... also, factor in the years of not being able to play something you paid for. I think it balances out.

That said, I'd rebuy them in a second.

i've listened to several of the songs on both this album and chocolate invasion

and haven't found any song to be different yet. soundquality is good, but not

so incredibly different that it's glaringly obvious. i've been switching between
the HIFI lossless stream option and my own mp3 files, on headphones and it's

still not a huge difference. might be a different story to simply listen to them

without headphones, sometimes differences are more obvious that way, at

least to me. i'll try tomorrow.

having said that, these npgmc albums sound fantastic on tidal, but then i go

to my own files and they sound fantastic too when i thought they sounded

like shit lol could be my new headphones just picking up way more detail

than my old ones. yet they were only like 30 dollars smile

i'm not being helpful, am i. i'll shut the hell up.

Oh. come on! It's very clear to hear that prince stole the chorus melody from "Spill the Wine".There's no doubt about it.

Yes, it's similar. It's just not more similar than tons of other "steals"--and I admitted that many people would think I was wrong--that's why I cited Blurred Lines. The melody of the chorus is ridiculously simple in both My Medallion and Spill the Wine... once you've got the chords, and you're not doing much in the melody (which neither is), what both songs have is pretty much a default mode. There's nothing to it. If Burdon thinks he "wrote" it, he's kind of fooling himself. The rest of the song is where the writing is in both cases.

Yes. Remember: Prince never heard While My Guitar Gently Weeps either, until he was asked to perform it.

Well, I for one had never heard of that Eric Burdon track before someone compared MM to it, and that's the proud owner of 4000+ albums talking.

But anyway there's no point in dabating something we don't know. If somebody wants to sue Prince let them give it a shot and we'll see nod

No. Defiinitely not. Prince copies so much from artists from that era, but most of the time he alters enough so that it becomes something unique. Cream for example. But My Medallion is just a simple copy.
