I Agree With Prince @Prince3EG:
"An artist needs to explore beyond their own garden. You can't keep planting the same seeds where flowers are already blooming. WORD."

Just to play Devil's Advocate, but if an artist moves beyond their own garden only to plant seeds in another community's flowerbed, how will it stand out from the other flowers once it blooms? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

There's been a lot of weeds in the Purple Garden, the last few seasons

Well it's true. Prince has thrown caution to the wind to go outside his comfort zone.
That's what eventually gave us Dirty Mind.

I agree with him, he should be able to experiment. I think by all means he should experiment to the end of the earth and back with his music. But he needs to take into consideration the way things are going to be recieved in his fanbase as well, there are people in here that have been fans for over 30 yrs. I don't get why people are condemning him so much for 'jumping on bandwagons', because really throughout the years Prince has jumped on a lot of bandwagons. The early '90s comes to mind especially. It's just that mainstream music back then wasn't as deplorable as it is today. And of course Josh had a big hand in this album too. I don't hate everything on that album, I actually really enjoy a lot of the tracks. But it's just not standout. So yeah, by all means I'm good for him experimenting but Prince can't really expect his fanbase to hold HitNRun up to the same acclaim as something like Lovesexy. It's just not gonna happen.

That's no excuse for doing modern EMD music or whatever the fuq it's called
This is just going along with what everyone else is doing. The young, raw and real Prince wouldn't do this shit. He'd make a new sound.. I guess since he's old he can't be so creative anymore. Not his fault, shit like that happens as you age and his age is showing nowadays [Edited 9/9/15 15:35pm] Will is everything. The will to act.

The problem isn't that it's new. The problem is that it's crap. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Sorry Prince, but simply following what current mainstream music is doing (how many of you guys cringed hearing a 57 year old man saying the word "thot"?) isn't "experimentation", it's "conformity". It was true in 1991, and it's true now. Example:
How many albums sounded like Dirty Mind in 1980? Not many, maybe none. How many albums sound like HITNRUN in 2015? Lots. [Edited 9/9/15 15:44pm]

And yes, you can keep seeding in the place where there are already flowers. In fact, some flower varieties do that all on their own.
Which proves Prince ain't much of a gardener. If he were, he wouldn't plant sunflowers in the shade. (That, my dear Prince, is a metaphor. Remember those?) [Edited 9/9/15 16:12pm] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

When Prince's new image is t-shirt, trainers, no make up, normal-ish hair- that's when he'll make his most interesting music for years
ie when he REALLY stops caring what ppl think

Genesia said: The problem isn't that it's new. The problem is that it's crap. Bingo!! Prince is hell bent on not making a "Purple Rain 2" or repeating the Revolution "sound"-- the thing is that music was GOOD. His new music HITNRUN--you can call it "experimental" or for the "purple collective"--or whatever you want--that DOESN'T make it actually GOOD music.

Different garden? In Cher's yard maybe - how is this album NOT Prince's "Cher comeback"?
. Lots of filtered vocals. Prince releases TCBU for a second time. Cher repeatedly adds "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" to her albums. FALLINLOVE2NITE pairs awfully well with "Believe" (the song). . [Edited 9/9/15 17:05pm]

nothing on HITNRUN touches the soul and spirit like Sexy Dancer though 1979 disco/funk > 2015 electro pop

There are two versions of Bang Bang. The original and the 80's rock version. Repetedly? Bullshit. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

he doesn't get it and neither do most ppl praising the new album.. i don't want another lovesexy. i sure as hell don't want another purple rain. i don't want the old ass revolution to reuinte either. i want good music. has nothing to do with wanting old prince. the new shit is just toilet water. that dance music shit is cool when done well (Daft Punk, Pharrell, Jamie Lidell, etc) but this....no.

It is really Edm with a Prince touch and if you go on Facebook or other pages people are giving it good reviews. If you do not like EDM at all I can understand and wish people would just say that.

I have no problem with Prince embracing EDM. But the kind of EDM he is embracing is the shitty, diluted crap that is found in the charts. That is a bastardised version of EDM to start with. If you absorb shit, you are going to excrete shit. The EDM I have wanted Prince to absorb (since the 90's) has been the underground variety. The places where the pioneers are inventing and evolving the genre. The stripped down, raw and unsullied EDM that isnt sprinkled with commercial fluff. The real thing. Sure, there are not too many vocals about but I am not asking Prince to copy the genre. I would just like to see him absorb it, embrace it and then see what he can do with it. I like what Prince is trying to do, but his starting point is all wrong.

. His starting point is "what is selling? what is popular?" -- hence the crap on HNR. And since he's too cheap to actually hire David Guetta and the like, he has an acolyte imitate something already crappy and derivative and it just becomes shit-squared. . That still doesn't explain the godawful lyrics, though. © Bart Van Hemelen

Totally disagree. He should make music that feels right to him. If we don't like it, we can make our own music. If we are by law forced to buy his music, that's a completely different story.
I think trying to cater to the fans and the fanbase might be the problem - if there is a problem. [Edited 9/10/15 4:28am] [Edited 9/10/15 4:29am]
