This is the least excited I've ever been for a new Prince album. Not sure why. I really like AOA. Perhaps I'm sick of Prince's antics. Perhaps I'm let down by AOA being so quickly forgotten. Perhaps it's the shit with Tidal. I don't know. Where's your excitement level for HITNRUN? What's the least excited you've ever been for a new Prince album? (Technically I think 20ten might beat HITNRUN for me...maybe. I didn't even track down a copy from eBay until 2012.)

I guess I'm less and less excited with each album announcement but it has nothing to do with Prince. I'm growing older is all. I've had a new Prince album every year or so for 26 years. I have thousands of Prince tracks studio and live on my drive. I also have 4000 thousand+ albums by other artists. I'm not gonna have a heart attack because I'm gonna have another dozen Prince songs.

Losing interest in the upcoming album and posting on the Org aren't mutually exclusive. It's stupid to think they are.

Who has said they've been tired of Prince since 1993? It seems like most people are saying they've really enjoyed some (or even most) albums since then. It's just that people aren't feeling very pumped about this upcoming album. It doesn't have to be 0 or 100. Can you handle a little nuance and complexity?

Well Mr. Sausasage, from the tracks released so far, i will say that the general audience will beg to differ. The new tracks point to a dramatic increase in quality in every sense. we as well as Tidal subscriers look to be in for a treat.

..and this coming from someone who is always hyper-critical of his newer work.

Perhaps. And I might even like the new album more than AOA (and there's no need to get into our opinions on AOA here). Regardless, what I'm saying is my excitement level is super low for this new album. Which I find weird given that the last year or so has been an exciting one overall, certainly compared to the few years before it.

The definition of what an album is not a matter of format. Formats for recorded music have evolved for a century and your grandchildren will not even know what a CD was.

You have every right to favor a format over another, but the concept of "an album" is an abstract concept that's not directly tied to the format it ends-up on, in a similar way to a novel being a novel regardless of whether it's a paperback or an ebook, or a movie still being a movie when you purchase it on DVD even though it was originally a film strip to be projected in a theatre.

It'd be like someone in 1995 saying "IMHO albums are vinyl records, not CD's", it defies logic. My current mp3 copy of Lovesexy is as much an album as my CD copy was, which itself was as much an album as my original cassette copy was, which itself was as much an album as the LP copy other people purchased at the time.

I'm a bit annoyed by the tendency some people here have to confuse their personal favorite format and the actual, objective reality of what constitutes an album.

I am somewhat excited due to the fact that I really like HRL and TCBU is actually decent also. AOA still gets plenty of spins.

I am however very tired of the BS and the endless drama surrounding the release of his new music. I know we should expect that from Prince but one would hope there is a maturation process that occurs as the decades pass.

100% agree.

I think because "Parade", "Sign o the Times", "Lovesexy", Purple Rain" & "1999" were so influential, such a major Era in our youth, we'll always have a curiosity in his output.

The way people will bitch about the Star Wars Prequels and the next movies because "The Empire Strikes Back", "Return of the Jedi" & "Star Wars" meant so much to our youth. We'll check out "The Force Awakens" --we don't need to move on & not see it.

This Could B US Remix is horrible! What's on the next cd--Welton remixing "Mr. Goodnight"?

I have no desire to listen to this album until I know I have it on an unconditional solid, non-rental format.

So illegal download it is for me, until it's released on a physical, or at least downloadable format.

Unless this is all meant to be a giant protest against streaming services. In which case, you've been duped, Tidal.

Teaming up w/the Weltons, Prince doubled down on having a "God Squad" production team. IMO - Christian music is notorious for watered down flavor. I can't think of anything influential or widely acclaimed that's escaped that genre. The result is always an outdated pale imitation of something else (double ick). In this case it seems Welton's co-opted Prince, as a genre, and he's watering it "Down.. Down.. Down"

i dont know, kids.. i think its kinda over for me... i have really tried ... i mean REALLY tried to not throw in the towel.. .but i dont know what I am holding out for anymore....

i really dont get into the new music.. AOA was OK.. i actually LOVE the song AOC. but there are maybe a handful of songs from the last 10 years that I remotely care about....

the jesus stuff and no cursing and nothing on the internet and being against gay people.. im like.. WTF am i doing? I am holding on to memories of being a lost kid... and Prince's music was my rock... it was the only thing i had to look forward to ... my 'fandom' was beautiful.. but maybe its ok that its now over...

you know i've been thinking this myself. what made prince so exciting were his utopian ideas and inclusion of 'others' - god was always there, sex was always there, and there was an intelligence in how he dealt with his competeing urges good/evil lust/love.....and there was the funk, the rock, the minimalism, the overindulgence, the repentance, the salvation, and then the urge to do it all again.....

but he's sterilized himself. its his right, of course, he owes us nothing. i dont expect him to be 26 yr old prince, but.... prince with an open mind was a cultural idealogical thunderbolt --- kinda tired of the party all night songs. dude, we know...you get bishes blahblahblahblah.

i would like a statement album on par with SOTT....there's alot going on in the world right now that needs artists and people with platforms to speak, in their medium of choice. baltimore isnt close to being enough. prince needs to sit the f-down and WRITE about the state of the world today in a way that we know he really can.

he could be making important music, but he's wasting his energy with ken and barbie trying to teach funkless robots how to appear human. #blacklivesmatter and all he's doing is hardrocklover??? (which i like and its great, ...) BUT REALLY? he needs to sink his teeth into society and get real about it.

Prince is at his lowest professionally. Perhaps more than he's ever been. He's lost confidence to make music people care about. Recent albums have become forgettable almost weeks after their release, live shows rely on an assortment of forgettable session singers. WTF happened to the guy??And now, perhaps in a move that could prove fatal, he's practically handed over the keys to a couple of religious zealots--a clueless, half-witted husband and wife team about as edgy as a can of peas. Prince, pull your socks up son. Get busy again. Lose the amateurs.

oh come on guys, they helped out on 2 albums, the solo one of which seems to be liked
or even loved by a huge portion of the fans (myself included).

a lot of people are expecting the new album to be quite fun, especially because of josh
being involved again.

so he co-produces another album, what doesn anyone care? people have been saying
"X needs to go" since the first NPG and everyone else associated with prince since then.

if prince makes solo albums they are as likely to be a hit or a miss as his joint efforts.
planet earth/mplsound/20Ten were solo albums and all of them have major flaws.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
