I think Small Club is excellent, but the 1984 birthday show smokes it.

The show is only legendary because it was recorded and leaked, and we all got to hear it.

I'm sure there have been HEAPS better shows. which P will have in his "collection" but................

Stimpy said: What are the song names and performance dates for these guitar solos you listed? Thanks!

they are all just my imagination.

the performance dates are all clustered around the US leg of Lovesexy, you can look them up at the Vault.

the 3 US dates (Reseda, Roseland and SF) are all collected on Sabotage under Lovesexy, the aftershows.

Camden is Sabotage Gross Freiheit.

there are 2 or 3 more that are super obscure (one Minnesota cafe and a Paris date) out there, the knowlegable on this board will know locations and labels.

I think "Reseda" is a mistake. It was at the Palace in Hollywood which is now called Avalon

There's been some threads asking for it IIRC, but honestly what good would it do? You can't petition for Prince releasing vault music any more than you can petition ME for, say, dressing like Ronald McDonald's every day for a year. You can't have someone doing what they don't want to do with a petition lol

And anyway, why petition for a release that we already have in such excellent quality?

I would rather petition for the '86 New Morning show as it is dire need of a high quality soundboard upgrade.

wink

I totally agree with that. I would even settle for a better audience recording. So many unique tracks were played during that show. I'm thankful that at least an audience recording exists but its one of the hardest ones to listen to because of the quality.

Correct, he was Prince's guitar tech and I'm sure he took photographs during the Lovesexy period too.

I picked up the original X-Records CD back when at a record fair in the UK. I wasn't looking for it and didn't know it even existed. I walked past a stall where some old bloke was playing something on his boom box. I recognised 'America' being played on guitar (Later learning it was during DMSR). I thought that sounds badass and funky. Asked him what it was and bought it on the spot.

.

It's a veritable diamond in Prince's canon.

I also would give a lot to hear the 1986 New Morning with a good sound quality. The circulating tape has the most awful sound.

But it's still so great regardless of that.

Still Would Stand All Time sounds incredible - a version like that would have been one of Prince's greatest songs. So much emotion in that performance.

Yes, I've got that one too, although in my case the record fair was in Amsterdam. Funny how some of the titles are wrong. (RADE?) I hope Bart doesn't have this CD. wink

My favorites are the the first two tracks. I think that opening instrumental is one of the things I would play to impress nonfans who are musically inclined.

I do think the board mix on Housequake is pretty bad.

I have that one on a box set by Eye Records called GMT. The date was29-08-2007. And yes, it was a kickass show. (I wasn't there.) I hope this will help you find it!

Nice one, thank you. Yeah, that's it, bloody special that one....Such a well tracked show, its got an incredible middle from I like it there to Elephants and Flowers. Obsolutely epic. And it takes nothing away from the start and end. If the middles 10, the start and end are 9's.

Always loved this and was glad to buy an officially released remastered version on Google Play, when did this become an official release?

I was surprised to find it there, very good value at £3.99, an immediate purchase for me.

Nope, I agree as well. The drums are slightly panned to the left and I just can t stand it!

So can I assume you've never enjoyed the original Motown, Beatles, Sinatra, etc mixes. then? Man I wish I could experience the feeling again of discovering those waaay back-in-the-day acts in their original form. When I was a kid those acts were all over 50, but when I was able to go back and hear those guys in their teens and twenties, the respect factor grew for me. Stereo records used to isolate the vocal on one side, then pan the drums and other instruments to the other. And it was magic. Same with the original Berry Gordy mono mixes of Motown records... it's just beautiful. The imperfections are sometimes helpful in making art.
