The Holy River Yes I know the concencus is that The Holy River is a stellar track. The other day for some reason I was humming the song so much that I had to hear it to get it out of my head. That was on Monday since then I've listened to it everyday multiple times and it makes me cry each time. I have always loved this song but now I think I'm addicted to it. It's weird but I'm okay with that. The solo at the end is one of the 20 best solos I've ever heard.

I agree, and I think the solo is perhaps my favorite of all Prince's solos.

I love it. It's Prince the songwriter in optima forma. It has something of that "fall in love not with a girl or a boy but with the heaven above" feeling. It builds to a climax and then gradually builds down again. Perfection.
And that second CD of Emancipation has some of his most gorgeous soul ballads ever! Curious Child, Dreaming About U and Saviour (the guitar solo on that one is pretty good too) are lovely... [Edited 8/26/15 11:17am]

In very few Prince songs can I detect the same emotional investment as in 'The Holy River'. It is a beautiful track and one of the rare occasions where I feel like his lyrics really mean something at a personal level.

Very wordy. He rhymes the same words a buncha times. The sentiment shines thru, very poignant. I love it . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

One of my favs from EMAN but I like the remix much more, too. Sounds better raw.

Love this song, except when he talks about religion.

^ That's cute. By chance are you one of those "tolerant" libs with a COEXIST bumper sticker on your car? "The password is what."

The Holy River is one of my favorite songs as well. I never cared for the remix though. I also agree that the 2nd disc of Emancipation has some of Prince's best ballads ever. Saviour, Dreamin' About U & One Kiss at A Time are among my favorites. It's such a shame that he didn't include more of Emancipation in the set list during the Love4OneAnother Charity Tours. I'll never forget driving from San Diego to Los Angeles to see Prince back in 97 when he preformed at the Pantages. It was my first Prince concert and I was listening to the 2nd disc of Emancipation over and over. Luckly I've had the opportunity to hear him preform The Holy Rive and Somebody's Somebody live ... AMAZING! If a man is considered guilty

A wonderful track, but I don't think he will ever top Pink Cashmere. I miss these kind of tracks as opposed the more 'spoken word, half singing, half rapping' stuff that has prevailed over the last 10 years. Sure there are the exceptions, but in my opinion, the songs with incredible melodies and chorus' have been far and few between. Stare is a prime example of what I am talking about, no real melody, no great chorus, just spoken word over a beat. Not to say that I do not like Stare, because I do, I just wish he would craft some great melodic songs, which I know he could do at the drop of a dime. We're talking about a songwriter who writes what he sees, feels and believes. Prince believes in Jesus. Face it, accept it, deal with it.

I'm a Liberal Christian who appreciates artful songs about God. The Christian industry is incapable of doing so I'm glad Prince has consistently been able to do so. I too want religion out of government it's disgusting to see politicians prostitute God and see citizens pay and join in on the gang bang.

I'm not the least bit religious, but I think this is a great song!

"There you are...you think you're high. You don't trust yourself. So you only lie"...are these the right lyrics?
His voice on the "there you are" part is cool.

I never got the love for this song. Very corny IMO. Why release this as a single when Joint2Joint was there.. ugh...
