In no order...

Purple Rain

Dirty Mind

Controversy

Sign O The Times

Parade

Around The World In A Day

Lovesexy

1999

Batman

Graffiti Bridge

.... Sorry Plectrum has no room in my TOP TEN lol

I like all those albums, but when I rank albums I think about the whole experience.. whether I have to skip anything or not... like if I were to leave an album on a go a read a book, would I have to get up to change anything. For my aesthetic, I don't listen to all that much stuff with R&B elements. I do, just I'm kinda picky, and I listen to a ton of weird music, so I'm probably more appreciative of his rock and experimental stuff than most.. so I also temper my reflections on anything with "imo" because most of the time I'm in the minority position.. at least on this board.

I don't know what experience you had when u listened to Plectrum lol

All the real exeperiences as a Prince fan were in those albums listed above... lol

Say what you want but I like most of the songs on the album. Wow, PlectrumElectrum, FixUrLifeUp, Another Love, Whitecaps, Pretzelbodylogic, TicTacToe... It could have been even more hardcore rock but I enjoyed it for what it is, a rock-based Prince/3rdEyeGirl album. AOA wasn't bad either. I hadn't bought a Prince album in 17 years, before last year.

I have high hopes for Hit N Run.

On the other hand, PlectrumRectum as a title is hilarious. Salty-ass Prince fans not withstanding.

IMHO Plectrum was a good idea, but a bad cd. It is too "clean" to be rock, the chorus are too "jingle", all is too much pop to work as rock. There are some very good tracks (the covers) , some "boh" studio session (Pretzel is a song?) , and non-Prince vocal songs that scream "skip me!" from the firts seconds.

i would like it if it had prince on vocals, it's that simple smile if this album had prince on vocals

all the way through, it would have been a bit better. imagine something like this:

01. Wow
02. Screwdriver

03. Whitecaps

04. 2Y2D

05. Plectrum Electrum

06. FixUrLifeUp

07. Anotherlove

08. Cause and Effect '14

09. Tic Tac Toe

10. FunkNRoll

11. Marz

(hidden bonus: 12. Midnite Blues)

prince on vocals for everything, 2y2d being the rock version they performed live

and a newly recorded version of cause and effect, much like their live version. music

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

That being said giggle, it's ok. A couple of decent songs, no great ones, but I fucks with it every once in a while wink. The Funknroll on this cd is alot better than the one on AOA, but I'm more akin to that album cool. Like a bunch a blind people... music Oh and I like Hannah's voice just fine lurking.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I like that song too, it is the one song where Hannah's voice doesn't bother me. My girlfriend hates the song with a passion though.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I love Octopus Heart and BoomStratus, thought those might have been on the album with others along that line

I'd say I like most of the album minus AINTTURNINROUND and FIXURLIFEUP

Here's the breakdown, Poor sales, weak reviews aside, an album is a hit to me if it contains a few great songs. Wow and Tic Tac Toe are both smash hits deserving a place on the charts. Not to mention a few other great tunes, like Funknroll. [Misleading subject title edited - luv4u]

The obsession with sales and charts that I see on this forum reflects the brainwashing operated by the media on the masses about what art is about.

Popular success is by far the least significant factor when it comes to evaluating the qualities of a work of art.

IMO, LotusFlow3r 10x > PlectrumElectrum. Lotus is a much stronger concept and execution, complete w/latter-day Prince paranoia (i.e. Colonized Mind, Dreamer).

Not sure why people feel so strongly about Boy Trouble?

My only quibble is that it seems extremely out of place on an album that was hyped as being segretated from AOA - CAUSE PE ROCKS TOO HARD FOR AOA'S SYNTH!

What do I know, I prefer AOA's FunkNRoll... dig the scuba breathing SFX. Hah!

After reading the US sales figures, what about European of even worldwide sales for the album?

Where to dig these up?

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

There's about 1/3 of a great album in PlectrumElectrum.

Wow

Pretzelbodylogic (minus the opening chant)

Fixurlifeup

MARS

Anotherlove

Funknroll

Too bad Screwdriver was not included. Most of the material sung by Hannah is nursery rhyme-level stuff , though I guess Itc Tac Toe is a guilty pleasure.

I like their Reloaded material live or studio, sure miss that Chaos and Disorder live performance he pulled off YT a couple of months ago.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Van Gogh produced more than 2,000 works of art, but sold only two during his lifetime.

Bach's work as a composer went largely unrecognised during his lifetime.

Brilliant art of high quality stands the test of time, and Prince's music will certainly do just that... PlectrumElectrum is a decent rock album, but it's not his most Mona Lisa. I wonder if he's planning to release a few new albums from his vault 50 years from now cool

3EG are as dangerous a band as going to church with your grandma.

there's no danger, theres no sexy, there's no mystery, theres no reason for them to exist so everything sounds sterile.

its not bad technically, its just cornball in many places and devoid of real human emotion and feeling in others.

sterile.

Semi-related to the topic...Listen to the main chorus melody of "TICTACTOE" then listen to the main opening melody of "Darling Nikki". I could be wrong but IMO I sort of hear a similarity...I've tried singing the opening lines of DN over the chorus melody of "TICTACTOE" & it fits.

I dig "TICTACTOE" tho. Probably my favorite song on the album cause it reminds me of the 85-86 Revolution era.
