Plectrum Electrum Here's the breakdown,
Poor sales, weak reviews aside, an album is a hit to me if it contains a few great songs. Wow and Tic Tac Toe are both smash hits deserving a place on the charts. Not to mention a few other great tunes, like Funknroll. [Misleading subject title edited - luv4u]

You can't put poor sales to the side, that's what makes an album number 1 or not! Sales don't impact whether or not you like the album, or if you think it's good. But for number one in the charts, that's all that counts.
You seem to have the same definition of a hit that Prince does RIP

My kid and one of his freinds who are both musicains really like most of AOA but criticized Plectrum Electrum. Their complaint was thet Prince wateed it down and should have let the band do it themselves. They boh had heard Donna Grantis solo and think she holds back in this band. Just an interesting observation. I personally felt both albums had soem good playing but were uninspited except a few tracks. Time for a producer with some outsider ears.

Plectrum wasn't the rock album I was hoping for, It was a huge letdown. I thought it would at least be similar to C&D before it was released but it wasn't. A live album with 3EG would have been much better since I don't think they work very well in the studio. Welcome 2 The Dawn

Anotherlove is one of Prince's best songs in years... Even if it's a cover...
Amongst Anotherlove, Sticky Like Glue, and Dreamer are in my opinion his best 3 songs he's recorded since 2009.
Plectrum Electrum isn't good... It's just so bland... Not a good album at all.

I really thought when he first started promoting 3rd eye blind that they were gonna be a stand alone band without him then he started dropping npg for this hot mess and my interest has been. Zero

It never went #1. It debuted #8 on the Billboard 200 selling a dismal 26,000 copies in the first week, and the second week it dropped to #47 selling only 7,000 copies. By the third week it was completely off the Billboard Top 200 chart making it Prince's lowest selling album in the U.S. right behind N.E.W.S. With a total amount of 33,000 copies sold.
No hit at all... Very poor commercial album...

Actually based on sales figures alone... Can even be retitled to... Prince's lowest selling album since 2003.

The song PlectrumElectrum is alright...though according to some its a bit of a copycat. I was really hoping it could been a video-album. The vid of the title track was cool and showed that it was recorded live and whatnot. They should have picked ten or so trax along those lines and made a video-album. Instead...all of these bullshit trax ended up on there along with the petulant vox in fixurlifeup. It's sad that that was the album that was made if there were DAYS of recorded material as the band mates were saying.

KingSausage said: I actually listened to plectrumrectum today it's fucking terrible. This album has a great warm sound that I would say is missing in a lot of Prince's music - first heard on TRC. But the sound is ruined by the songs. There are three songs on this thing that I find worth keeping - . 1. Another Love 2. Plectrum Electrum 2. Funknroll . I don't even agree with most who put "Wow" on their list. . Just a giant, droning piece of garbage otherwise. Tic Tac Toe and Ain't Turnin Round have to be all-time lows. . Hanna on vocals...this is what authorities play loudly to flush criminals out of their hideouts. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. This is in my top ten Prince albums ever. I like every track on it. I like most everything on AOA and AOA's highs are better than PE's but as an entire unit for me PE comes out on top. I even like it better (as a whole) than Lotus.. as in, I can listen to PE without skipping a thing, while I'll always skip Love Like Jazz on Lotus. But the best of Lotus is still better than the best on PE to me. Change it one more time..

I like all those albums, but when I rank albums I think about the whole experience.. whether I have to skip anything or not... like if I were to leave an album on a go a read a book, would I have to get up to change anything. For my aesthetic, I don't listen to all that much stuff with R&B elements. I do, just I'm kinda picky, and I listen to a ton of weird music, so I'm probably more appreciative of his rock and experimental stuff than most.. so I also temper my reflections on anything with "imo" because most of the time I'm in the minority position.. at least on this board. Change it one more time..
