I can't find the posts but a few people have asked me for ideas and samples for the cover since I popped off about being a graphic designer and an illustrator. I have TONS of ideas for Prince covers. I did several of my art school projects around exactly that but, sadly, I ma seeking employment at the moment and anything I can whip or time I might spend has to go towards working on my portfolio.

Short answer though: I would just go with the "Free Yourself" art which I think is terrific, from the art to the title.

When I get time, I'll post a link that shows off my style, a lot of which could work for Prince. I remember being assigned a two part assignment a LONG time ago: "Pick two things that are similar and illustrate them in different ways". I chose Prince and Hendrix. Prince's illustration was basd off the Raspberry Beret cloud costume and the cloud guitar and was very light and ethereal. Very blue and whispy where Prince sort of formed out of the clouds.

Hendrix version was full of lightening and fire and looked like a hot acid trip but I made the compositions the same (Guitar solo pose).

Oddly enough, and this has fuck all to do with the album, in my freshman year at a University I was given an English paper to do that challenged me to pick two things that are simlar but different. This was in 85 or 86. I picked MJ and Prince and compared and contrasted their styles. I referred to MJ as "asexual" while Prince "hyper-sexual" and my professor asked me if I meant to say MJ was "bisexual", like he'd never heard the term "asexual". I knew exactly what I meant.

My only problem with the "South Park" - "everything is a circle" Hit And Run cover, is that all it is a cartoonish, flat reinterpretation of the AOA album. I've seen it already. It's not BAD, it's just repetitive and redundant.

Think back to the SOTT cover. That thing is brilliant. Prince is out of frame and off focus leaving behind a jam session he looks like he just wrecked. No one had seen anythig like it before. Rainbow Children was a great cover. I like the juicy, hot psychadelic over saturation of LotusFlow3r and MPLS SOund.

Man, I'm way off topic but, then, what else is there to talk about?

I'm know we've had an album covers threads. Have we ever had one where people design their own covers? That could be fun. Take one we hate and submit alternatives? Where would we put it? "Off Topic", "GD" or "Music and More"...?

Hmmm...I'm rather liking this idea. Maybe I can combine it into coming up with new portfolio pieces.

Even his real fans are getting a little tired. I may not even buy this new one after the AOA/PlectrumElectrum dissapointment. The chances are pretty good it will be a dud.

The original press release didn't say anything about exclusive streaming rights, it said the album would be released exclusively on TIDAL. Prince went on to say it'll be exclusive for years and that Jay-Z had the master of the album. I think it's safe to say this is a U-Turn after the chorus of disapproval as Prince realised that we wouldn't all be that desperate to listen to it. Either that, or the original press release was a blatant lie. I think if it wasn't for us 'whingers', this album would still be exclusive to TIDAL. Assuming of course that it actually is going to get a physical/download release within the next couple of months.

Nope. Prince said as far back as the NABJ event at Paisley Park there would be a physical release. People just chose to ignore that to continue whining. Also, it wasn't a "lie" that the album would be RELEASED exclusively on TIDAL because that doesn't preclude release in other formats later. They tend to be coy with those details to drive up the value of the exclusive. For instance much was made of the new Dr. Dre album being "exclusive" to Apple Music and no doubt some people signed up thinking that would be the only way to hear it. Then a couple weeks later it shows up on TIDAL and the other streaming services.

tidal IS a streaming only site, so it appears now that we know they will prob have exclusive rights to the streaming - the information may not have been/is not clear - but that is Princeworld, always has been and always will be

Yeah, I'm all for expressing opinion, including criticism, on this site. But if the mere thought of Prince and his music fills you with bitterness and loathing, it really is time to move on.
