I agree, it doesn't even feel like there's a new album coming, it was way more excitement before AOA was released

Why build anything up for this project? They don't need stores to order copies, they don't need first-week sales to drive press... the thing's coming out on a streaming service. It will show up on the 7th, then the music web will announce its presence... if there's a bump in Tidal subscriptions it will happen after the release. There's no reason for anyone to sign up FOR THIS ALBUM (if that's why they're doing it) until HITNRUN is actually on the service. If you signed up at the initial announcement then you'd have used up your introductory period becore it even came out (the announcement was on August 7). If the service is worthwhile (I have no idea if it is), then regardless of when they join up, they'll stick around. A few Prince fans signing up for those 4 weeks before the release are meaningless in the long run (for Prince certainly, and probably for Tidal, unless they're in really bad shape financially), and that's all anticipation might lead to.

That makes sense but it's still a bit strange. No one expects music videos or him to do the chat show circuit but you'd think he'd have a bit of enthusiasm and pride for his new material and want it to do well so do a bit of promo.

I suppose that could still happen in the next week or so. There was something on Twitter yesterday about a journalist from EW spending a day at Paisley and I recall a promo of Hardrocklover stating 31 August as the 'impact date.'

I'll just throw this speculation out there, it's possible TIDAL and Prince may do something unprecedented like offer physical copies on the front page on TIDAL.com outside the paywall like how they did the Baltimore stream, in addition to the streaming exclusive.

2weeks to go and nothing. Not even a TV appearance lined up. So disappointing. His band must be wondering why they formed.Cus it sure ain't to do much touring.

Since Prince did next to nothing to promote the huge WB comeback albums AOA/PE (besides playing on SNL) what makes anyone in here think he has any plans at all to promote this new release that is on no ones radar except for major Prince fans???

Well it would be a nice change wouldnt it. If Prince could show a little bit of energy and excitement for his own new album. He has a young and keen band wanting to perform. Its like when you work for a none interested boss. It drags you down too. It seems like he has been paid so hey, i dont care. Its like he doesnt believe in his own music anymore. I still believe in it!

well, he probably is. but what about Tidal? aren't they going to at least mention the album

a few times in the last 2 weeks leading up to it's release on their service? i assume they got

into bed with prince because it's a mutually beneficial relationship.

but i guess if they don't have the album yet, or any other promotional material..... lol

herb4	I'm kind of glad he's not doing too much pre-publicity. By the time AOA and PE dropped, I'd already half of the material. At least this way the album should be fresh.

Actually I feel the last 10 years he's really did nothing at all to promote any of his albums.... When u think of it, Musicology was the only real promotion he did, resulting him to have the biggest tour of the year and his last double platinum album.

3121 was moderately sucessfull, riding off Musicology's success. He did American Idol, or almost didn't should I say, the NAACP Awards performance, other than that not a whole lot, yet 3121 still managed to go GOLD and cell over 600,000 in the U.S.

Planet Earth did virtually no promotion in the U.S. besides the Verizon Guitar ad, even though his 21 nights in London were a sucess, Planet Earth was a commercial failure in the U.S. selling under 280,000.

Lotusflow3r besides the Target commercial and the 3 consecutive nights on Jay Leno was actually a surprise because it sold over 500,000 just being sold at Target alone is quite an accomplishment.

20TEN no promotion at all...

AOA/Plectrum no promotion at all, he went on Aresnio Hall a year too early, SNL was cool but by then people lost interest in the album without any videos being released besides Breakfast Can Wait which was released ages before AOA.

AOA was moderate successfull for today's record sales standards selling a litle over 200,000 world wide. However Plectrum was a commerciall disaster selling under 33,000.

What a complete waste of time. Why remix a song from your last album and put it on your new one?Its madness. Now if this is an extra track then fine. But from the sound of it its not.

Prince releases new version of 'This Could B Us' on Tidal

After dropping hints about a new album all summer, Prince announced earlier this month that his next record, HITNRUN, willdebut on TIDAL in September. Its first single, “HARDROCKLOVER,” came out last month, followed by the “Kiss”-inspired “Stare,” and now he’s released a new single, “This Could B Us,” exclusively on Tidal.

Prince fans may recognize the song and throwback album cover from his 2014 track, “This Could Be Us,” which appeared on Art Official Age. During an interview visit to Paisley Park last week, Prince and his co-producer Joshua Welton told EW they wanted to reimagine the track from Art Official Age with new production and a new vibe. They agree it’s definitely more trippy and industrial, with a harder, dubstep beat.
