Maybe HITNRUN will be available for lease with an option to buy. You know, like they do with cars. That's the future of music, man. Can U dig it? "The password is what." |

Huh?
Under what rock did you live?
At home we have 4K screens, plenty of bandwidth, etc.
So why would a streaming based, virtual if you will, service like 'tidal' go back to the real world if they lack pictures to go with the album audio? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Good one! Of course, with any luck, your car will give you 15 years of great service. After 15 weeks, how many will still have HITNRUN in heavy rotation? It's been 15 years since Rave, when's the last time you were compelled 2 listen 2 that album end 2 end?

Good point. And to answer your question: 15 years ago! The Rave DVD gets more rotation with me than the album.

Bart's opinion is one of the few I pay attention to. He says what I'm thinking when I read the nauseating amounts of hype and pro-prince spin on here. Here's a handful of them: Ariel Pink, Caribou, Jim O'Rourke, Leftfield, Panda Bear, Son Lux, Allah-Las, Blur, Alison Wonderland, Cannibal Ox, COIN, Courtney Barnett, Earl Sweatshirt, Hudson Mohawke, Kamasi Washington, LA Priest, Mbongwana Star, Rae Morris, Speedy Ortiz, Tame Impala, Taxiwars, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Viet Cong, Wire,...
C'mon, Bart. jdcxc asked for artists with a SIMILAR TENURE and you list a bunch of artists that I've never heard of. How can they have a similar 37 year tenure and be unknown? Which one had a Purple Rain level release? Which one has a 37 year career? These are just obscure artists you like, not artists that parallel Prince. Try again. Just sayin...
i don't understand. "In order to comment, prove you have taste in music, but list verteran artists or it doesn't count." Should we make that a requirement to sign up to the forum?

Sheesh, is THINKING really that hard? Every now and then there's a leak of a really fantastic outtake or gig from the 1980s, or a substantial upgrade of an existing one. hence I keep attention.
.
And what is this "closely follow" nonsense? Does it take you lot some supernatural effort to READ things?

And the final question: why do you lot continue to be so upset whenever I post a comment that exposes bullshit for what it is? Why is it that a thread about a new song contains a mention of me ON THE FIRST PAGE?

Again: STOP PROJECTING. Where do you get the idea that listening to a shitty song once or twice is "torture"? Sweet jebus. © Bart Van Hemelen

I calculate it as using the free trial on Tidal to get early access to the new album. By the end of that free month there will either be a physical release or there won't be.
I understand what you're saying - each month that one album costs £10 more than it did the previous month. But that simply comes down to content. If he's suddenly offering live streams and concert footage that represents similar value to the NPGMC - things become more interesting.
If it's a one time deal and ONLY on Tidal then like everyone else, I'll Cancel, Uninstall and look elsewhere.
.
If Prince puts a slew of exclusive content on Tidal then yes, that's a deal-changer. History makes it pretty clear that this will be a one-and-done album exclusive, at least for a period of time, and Prince will move on to seek out the next suitor. Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora...surely there are a few labels he hasn't aligned with still...
Time will tell.
I would struggle to believe Jay-Z simply handed Prince a million dollars for a limited time exclusive deal. It's unclear what Prince is getting out of this in terms of up-front cash. Unlike the newspaper cover mounts.
Tidal is offering more in terms of PR. A few posters on the tube mean little these days - compared to Jay-Z giving the album his thumbs up.

Egad, the interwebs are getting grumpier and grumpier, (possibly because teledildonics STILL hasn't taken off -WTF?) but luckily I'm here to propose some solutions so pull up a gimp and relax with your favorite snacks on hand.
1. People really like physical things so if Prince and/or someone pretending to be him would just send to everybody who downloads a stream or streams a download a RECEIPT, possibly handwritten or screenprinted to look handwritten, then those who are PHYSICALLY FRUSTRATED will no longer be.
Simple, really.
2. Tidal is rubbish because Madonna was there on opening day. Despite modern times, you still can't sell a product using a granny. It's unfair and sexist but it's FACT, kids. Jay Z has clearly not taken advice from his local ghetto on this. KEEP IT REAL JAYHOVA!
3. Someone at WB needs to step up and give Prince a talking to about his public relations. Prince's band shouldn't be allowed to give interviews about him. They're even worse than his own. I'm thinking it could be time to change his name again for rebranding purposes but I'm offering no suggestions as that should be up to his spirit or something. GET IT SORTED
4. Prince fans are well known to be suffering from rabies. One word, peeps: PFUnk. The fact that the media at large has chosen to ignore this in favour of 'Ten Things You Didn't Know About Prince Including Who He Is' has just meant that the poor long-suffering fan massif is suffering ever-longer when really they should have been culled. Prince has gone on record as saying he wouldn't mind but I've forgotten whether it was an A-side or a B-side.
5. I have another 17 entries in this IMPORTANT MESSAGE but my mum's just shouted that my tea's ready. Tara y'shitters. “I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions.”

His opinion is always the same: Prince is now a mediocre artist only in it for the money, he has not written a single good song since he first left Warner and all of his future songs are going to be terrible unless he agrees to be under the strict direction of a label as a mass-pleasing pop star, ideally under his helm.
That about sums it up. The only nuance he's had is in the degree of contempt and how vindictive he has been about any of Prince's actions, bar none. I can't remember a single time when Bart said Prince did something half decent in the last 15 years. He's the mirror image of KCool: one chooses to see everyting through wonderful, pink-hued glasses, the other sees everything through shit-coloured glasses, but other than that, they are the two sides of the same coin.

Fans: "What a fucking rip off, Prince... you've gone too far this time!! Why should we go to that website to get your music, can't you put it on a different website and just eat the hoasting and PR costs yourself?"
.
So much bullshit in so few words.
Rude (and factually incorrect)
Yes, the immense costs of hosting. Literally CENTS for gigabytes and data transfers. You do know you can actually look up how much those things cost @ Amazon, Azure, etc, right?
Someone should have told Jay-Z he didn't need to spend $100 million on Tidal. You could do the same for a few cents a month...
Hosting is one aspect of actually running and maintaining a website, He's tried it, it isn't profitable otherwise he'd still be doing it. I'm aware any idiot can buy a domain and upload their shit, but streaming at 1411kbps? How do you then drive 500,000 to that site? for a few cents per month? We're not talking GB we're talking PB... because people who stream basically download the same thing multiple times in high quality
Moreover, I bet plenty of companies would have loved to collaborate with Prince, but then again the past has taught us that no such thing is possible (just read the bullshit those idiots who created LotusFlow3r.com had to put up with) and thus we're now in a situation where Prince is requesting offers from streaming sites.
You "bet" or you "know" because you spend most of your time on the org talking about how no record company will touch Prince - Now every tech start-up is inexplicably falling over themselves to work with the guy who said the internet was dead right before it blew up on mobile devices? Who are these companies?
Stop making shit up?

Descriptions of the 2 new songs played on Saturday night at PP!
After Prince’s minute-long speech, DJ Kiss spun a snippet of Prince’s “Kiss” and then she played two songs from his forthcoming album, “HitNRun,” due Sept. 7 via Tidal, Jay Z’s streaming service. Prince did tell the crowd that the music also would be available in a physical format.
The new songs, perhaps titled "Love Control" and “Shut This Down,” were very dense and mechanical, with lots of intriguing electronic noises. Although the music was presumably played by Prince and his band 3rdEyeGirl, it was less organic sounding than their previous album, 2014’s “PlectrumElectrum.”

The bit in bold doesn't sound accurate to me. "Hit&Run" is more Prince/Josh? The girls themselves have said as much - they first heard "Ht&Run" when Josh started playing it.
The 3rdEyeGirl album is going to be "Phase two"? Since they tweeted the video of the string section.
