luvsexy4all said: get us into the theatre and play the album THERE The key word in that sentence is US. Get us into the theater. This would appeal to hard-core fans who are going to buy the new music anyhow. Where's the hook? Where's the gimmick? How do you get the general public interested?

who cares about the general public? do u think he's really trying to appeal to the gp? he's got to realize they aint buying new cds.....i would want to hear it first like this. [Edited 7/27/15 8:42am]

Theater owners who need to fill seats care a good deal about the general public. The number of people who'd pay for a concept based on your idea? Negligible. The two Prince fans a day who might sit through this nonsense, even if they bought their weight in Goobers, don't really compare to a room full of people there to see the latest Pixar flick.

I'd rather have a surround sound disc with video material, etc. Blu-ray. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

well ..he aint supposed to be about the money..its about the sound
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Its always about the money.

Yeah, I want to pay money to stand around listening to a new album with a bunch of other loser Prince fans. It's bad enough with myself there. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

you know there'll be drunk women, closing in on 60, in their vanity 6 get up and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

It's like this. There are two kinds of Prince fans: those just as bad as me, and those worse than me. I don't want to hang out with either type. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

but beyond the other fans, let me answer the OP: i wouldn't like this approach, even if it were just me in the theater. i want the music at home, so i can listen to it when i want and as often as i want. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Are folks scared to be seen famming out?

Then "he" can invite "them" to Paisley Park, because the theater owners aren't in on your fantasy.

There is a significant difference between being negative & being realistic. Sorry to stick a pin in your purple balloon, but if you honestly think that Prince could fill a movie theater for no other purpose than to have people listen to a new album, you're delusional & need to get back on your medication immediately.
It's not 1985 anymore.
While he can still fill arenas with a live show, the vast majority of his recorded output released over the last two decades barely registers as a blip & is almost immediately forgotten, save for here, where its questionable quality is debated endlessly.
These are facts. as were my earlier points about theater chains being interested in filling seats & making a profit & how this would not be a means to that end.
However...
As some of us are still interested in hearing the 30th anniversary edition of Purple Rain (or what is now the 31st), what would be a better shot at promoting that considerably more high profile & commercially viable release would be a Fathom Events anniversary screening of the film featuring some additional content (e.g. a Q&A with some of the cast & crew, or in the extremely unlikely event he'd be willing, a 3 song mini concert streamed into participating theaters). Ticket buyers would be given a commemorative lanyard & poster with anniversary artwork & this would all be done to promote the album's actual release.
Use your head please. | |

da....i didnt imply it was a financially great marketing strategy....
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, you just said "who cares about the general public?" which is a completely idiotic statement to make when considering that the business of a movie theater (& most other commercial endeavors) is to make money.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
so now every idea we can concieve ..we have to consider if anyone can make money off of it?

Hey here's a NEW way to listen to NEW music - let's all go to the moon and build a giant listening booth so we can all float around in zero gravity and hear some NEW sounds. Now I know this is unrealistic and financially insane but wouldn't it be the coolest. Prince in Space.

. No, it should be considered whether it's a financially sensible venture. © Bart Van Hemelen

. I remember this differently... I saw the Musicology show at a theater in Portland... it felt like kind of a dud. The theater was pretty empty, and the sound was terrible (it wasn't just that DVD). The whole thing felt kinda underwhelming, like the energy from the show didn't quite make it. The disconnect between the projected performance and the shitty sound/empty venue just felt too weird. To this day I don't really listen to Musicology because of that experience. I'm sure it was a cool show to see in person, but I wouldn't go back to a movie theater to see a Prince concert again..
